Freezing Saddles 2018

As noted by Amalitza in the sticky:

Usually sometime around Halloween, planning threads pop up on the forum (in the Freezing Saddles subforum, here http://bikearlingtonforum.com/forumd…ng-Competition ), where we argue about things like e-bikes, and whether 10 points per day is the right number and other rules minutia. Past rules are subject to change in the yearly planning process.

So I figure it’s about time for the annual arguments to begin. I’ve put up a draft registration form at this link. Note that there is no “Submit” button on this form, because for the moment, it is only to give people something to discuss. I am reconciled to the fact that at least one person will try to submit in spite of this, but at least the attempt will be unsuccessful. You can respond to this post with any comments on the draft registration form.

    Last year, the leaders were:

Hozn: Software/backend. (This year, it will be jrenaut and hozn.)
Amalitza: Sticky. (This year, it will be Henry.)
    Sunyata: Team assignments.
    CBGAnimal and wheels&wings: Happy hours.
    Steve O: Pointless prize organization.
    Me: Registration.

Please let me know if you’d like to continue your role this year. If not, we’ll need to find new people for those roles. Edits above show replacements for this year.

Any other suggestions for what we need to argue about?

People are really emotionally invested in Freezing Saddles and I can’t blame them. I had an emotional response to the discussion which is probably best discussed at coffee club.

Do I get points for listening?

Patience, grasshopper! Teams are assigned at the first happy hour, which is early in January. And points you earn from January 1 are counted for your team, once you are assigned to it.

Yes. 200 Points. I will also assign you some of my allotment of popularity points and then bike around the Joint with you for social ride points.

I think it’s a little ridiculous that people discussing excitedly ways to improve the game is driving anyone away. You don’t have to read the thread if you don’t care!

    .

Well, we have to read the thread if we want to know what the new rules are going to be, or if we want to make sure to shoot down the most goofy suggestions.

RE: Slackers – Replace the button with a choice: “I want to compete” or “I want to participate without competing”. Then, and I guess I have to volunteer to code this, we replace the Slackers team with a Friends of BAFS “leaderboard” page. Anyone not assigned to a team but desiring to participate can get their rides tracked here, go to the events, and generally hang around. Registrants after 250 can go here and get assigned to teams later if spots are available. If you register late and click “I want to compete”, you’re on the wait list for a team spot. If you click “I want to participate without competing” then you show up on the Friends page but will never be placed on a team.

Importantly, riders on this page DO NOT GET tech support. That takes some of the pressure off the website people.

Also, riders on this page DO NOT SHOW ON LEADERBOARDS.

    Don’t @ me.

We didn’t have a button that says, “I want to compete.” Instead, we didn’t have slackers, or friends of BAFS, or whatever register at all. They will contact Sunyata at some time to be announced by her, to say they want to be whatever the name is.

I believe they are now called FREDS. ;)

If you are new to Freezing Saddles (or forgot), there is a calendar on the Freezing Saddles website with all the coffee clubs and a few of the other events on it (scroll down to the bottom).

Please add your events to the calendar. Team events too, unless you are adamant about not allowing infiltrators. If you played last year you probably have editing rights (I shared it with everyone last year). If you are new or can’t figure it out, PM me with your Google email address and I will get you set up.

First, I’m pretty sure you cant “enter” your mileage. We outlawed manual mileage entries last year (because of all the imaginary miles)

Second, it doesnt matter to the GPS which direction you rode around the square.

Hello Forum. Help me understand – I just rode several miles and came home. Mid ride strava was working. Now the ride is gone. Can I create a route , and then enter that as my ride for FS credit? So many rules to read and my searching the forum isn’t working out. Thanks

Well. There’s my ride on Strava.

    Weird.

Still whats the answer – is adding a ride via adding a route and doing manual entry ok for FS?

You can’t do an actual manual entry. But you can create a GPX file (either by downloading an existing ride and editing it, or by using something like Run With GPS), then upload it.

I created a route (on laptop on strava). Then added a Strava entry on my phone by clicking on Manual Activity and then add route .
    Zat ok?

I don’t think so. I think it’s got to be “upload file,” not “Manual Activity.”
