I’ve talked about Clif 2 Mile Challenge in the past. The idea is to get people to leave their cars at home and take more trips by bike. Sounds like a great sort of challenge for people on this board. You don’t have to be an endurance cyclist to be awesome at this challenge… in fact it is likely easier for people who don’t do long rides. The people who consistently do well in this challenge are the people who just ride around town doing what they do.

Here’s the kicker this month: If they get 10,000 cycling trips registered in July, Washington Area Bicycle Association gets a $10,000 grant from Clif.

    Here’s the blog entry: http://2milechallenge.com/challenge/July_2012_Challenge

Sign up is easy and quick. The interface is really easy to enter your trips… Just put in mileage and an optional comment about your ride and click enter. You don’t need a GPS. The mileage doesn’t have to be exact. They really want to count the number of times during the day or week that you got on your bike. You’re able to enter up to 4 trips per day.

This has been one of my favorite riding challenges for a while because it gives a TON to organizations that really work for better bicycling.

Let me know if you have question.

    Pete

Lol – I wrote that before I knew that DaveK was handing it over on a silver platter. I think he was MB’s domestique. (later: I think ‘lead out man’ is the term I should have used. I need to watch more racing movies.)

    You guys did it — 15,000 at 11 p.m.!!!!!

I think this calls for a celebratory happy hour on August 16, perhaps with an appropriate barbeque condiment to share.

We rule!!! (with a little help from our friends all across the country)

Looks like the Massachusetts folks are struggling. They won’t get anywhere close to 10,000 at this rate. 220-280 on weekdays so far. I’ll post some rides but the Massachusetts riders will have to do the bulk of the work themselves.

I posted seven rides for them this week already, they’d best get rollin! ;)

Yeah, they’ve got eight from me. Who’s actually riding in MA? Maybe we should schedule a ride up Mass Ave as a sign of solidarity?

I was looking at their data (I know, you are shocked!) and they look like they will need help. First three days only averaged 258 trips/day.

Would be interesting to see where the riders logging are from.

I admit that I quit logging my rides this month. Sorry MA, but you’re going to have to apologize for the Red Sox AND the Patriots before I’ll change my mind.

People in Kansas City are awesome! I have a sweet loaner to ride and enjoy, courtesy of an employee at my hotel who has a second bike, a Kona Hahanna, that he isn’t currently using. He’s into biking and is interested in joining the Clif Challenge now too.

Lots of hills here – I’m logging my miles for NBC today as mountain biking. ;-) It’s like Rosslyn Hill over and over again.
