Judging by the low numbers posted this morning, that might be a tall order.
It’s about an average Monday so far.

ParticipantI’m going to be in Kansas City for a week in early August. I’m really hoping we can help them get the full $10K.

ParticipantBy my count from a few minutes ago, only 2500 trips to go to reach the top-off for both BikeWalk KC and LACBC. With 7 days left to go, it’s a reachable goal. I see that LACBC updated their newsletter relling folks about the extension, but BikeWalk KC seems to taking a more passive approach. I guess it’s up to us to make it happen.

Their “passive approach” indicates two possibilities. I’ll take the optimistic view that it shows they really need the funds.

ParticipantI just got a note from KC Bike Walk. They said they were very excited about the deal WABA made with the Clif Challenge group, and are tweeting and facebook posting about it, but unfortunately, their monthly newsletter went out just before they got news of the agreement. They’re doing as much email promotion as they can, and really appreciate all the support!

Hmm, it’s not that expensive to gather up an email list, is it? They need to do a little more work, considering that they are getting a second chance at the full $10,000.

ParticipantDid you not read the post just above yours? They’re doing exactly that — and other things as well. It sounded like emailing was the main way they were getting the message out.

ParticipantHowdy folks. I’m Eric Rogers with BikeWalkKC. First of all, congratulations on such a great job for the July challenge!
We are super excited about this opportunity and grateful to both WABA and CLIF Bar for offering to lend a hand to BikeWalkKC and LACBC. BikeWalkKC is just 1.5 years old, and we couldn’t have started this organization without the amazing body of knowledge and experience at established groups like WABA.
We just finished launching our bike share system on July 3rd, so it took us a bit of time to catch our breath and ramp up the outreach efforts for this second chance at the 2 Mile Challenge. So now we have promoted it on social media, our web site, emails to members and our own commuter challenge program, etc.
Sarah Shipley, our Communications Director, is a DC ex-patriot who regales us with tales of the great folks at WABA. As a regular visitor to DC, I have enjoyed the fruits of your hard work to create an amazing bike culture and bike infrastructure. So thanks again for all your hard work in DC and for sharing the love with KC and LA.

More than happy to help. Good luck on all your new ventures in KC!

ParticipantWe have 2,170 trips to go!
Keep up the good work!
As of a couple minutes ago:
The July Challenge has logged 12,349 trips
To help get LA (8,891) and KC (6,590) to 10,000 each requires 4,519 additional trips. We have helped get them 2,349 so far. We need 2,170 more trips.
On Monday and Tuesday of this week we logged 498 and 488 trips. The complete (3 x 10,000 mile) three month, three city goal is within grasp if we keep logging our trips.

ParticipantCorrect me if I’m wrong, but since they split the “bonus” miles evenly, it looks like LA is already at $10K so all our efforts over the next week are for Kansas City.

That would be my understanding. Set your earphones to “Kansas City Here I Come”, or get Dirt to sing it as you ride alongside.
We should at least get some KC BBQ (dry rub with sauce applied later) out of this – next Happy Hour!

ParticipantThe weather was so nice today that I could have easily logged about eight trips. I restrained myself to save some trips for tomorrow. What a great evening for a bike ride — I hope someone out there is enjoying it!

ParticipantMorning box scores (and bump)
We have 1,702 trips to go!
As of a couple minutes ago:
The July Challenge has logged 12,817 trips
Splitting the miles over our goal of 10,000 puts LA at 10,000 as well. We are now riding for Kansas City exclusively.
To get KC to the line, 1,702 more trips are needed from riders across the nation.
Yesterday, 467 trips were logged. Keep up the good work!

ParticipantDominion clipped my Fios cable yesterday so I couldn’t log my trips. Since I’m only doing two per day, I doubled up today and have already logged since I still won’t have internet service at home this evening.
