I’ve talked about Clif 2 Mile Challenge in the past. The idea is to get people to leave their cars at home and take more trips by bike. Sounds like a great sort of challenge for people on this board. You don’t have to be an endurance cyclist to be awesome at this challenge… in fact it is likely easier for people who don’t do long rides. The people who consistently do well in this challenge are the people who just ride around town doing what they do.

Here’s the kicker this month: If they get 10,000 cycling trips registered in July, Washington Area Bicycle Association gets a $10,000 grant from Clif.

    Here’s the blog entry: http://2milechallenge.com/challenge/July_2012_Challenge

Sign up is easy and quick. The interface is really easy to enter your trips… Just put in mileage and an optional comment about your ride and click enter. You don’t need a GPS. The mileage doesn’t have to be exact. They really want to count the number of times during the day or week that you got on your bike. You’re able to enter up to 4 trips per day.

This has been one of my favorite riding challenges for a while because it gives a TON to organizations that really work for better bicycling.

Let me know if you have question.

    Pete

Yup. We just need to put in the last bunch of trips. Today will likely be a light day ’cause people are taking off early fora long weekend.

I just logged in to log in today’s morning commute and my noon time trip to the library. When I logged in, it showed 9999 trips for August. After I logged three trips, it showed 10005 trips. Boston made it!

Anybody know who’s up in September? I can’t get the site to work properly from my work computer.

I don’t think they’ve announced next month’s recipient yet, though I expect we’ll see who it is soon.

Yeah, they don’t seem to have published the September_2012 page on their site yet. (I tried to peek.)

Next up – Cascade Bicycle Club in Seattle. I think this might be the same group that sponsored a challenge that a lot of forum members participated in earlier this year. Does this group sound familiar?

There’s an interesting Wikipedia article about them. It’s said to be the largest bicycle club in the country, and they’re very involved in advocacy as well as riding. They have a lot going on!
