Participant2/9 – Bonus
February is usually the rainy season in San Francisco. And most of the other mornings in the year have Karl the Fog blanketing the city before it burns off. It’s a real bonus to have a clear morning to see the Sutro Tower atop Twin Peaks.

Participant2/9/2025 Bonus
This sign includes a write-up (see below) and a picture of the Bonus Army encampment in 1932 at the nearby Anacostia Park
The dramas that played out on that stage were not always pretty. In the hot summer of 1932, at the height of the Great Depression, some 15,000 ragged World War I veterans and their families known as the Bonus Army, set up camp in the park. They were part of a group of 45,000 that had come to Washington to try to collect — 13 years ahead of schedule — a bonus payment due in 1945. When Congress tabled their request, President Hoover feared their anger and directed the U.S. Army to clear out the camp. The troops chased people out and burned their shelters. Many were injured, and a child died.

I asked kidSnowy, what should I photograph for “bonus”? And about 10 seconds later came upon a $25k hiring bonus.

Bol Coop Bookstore
1822 North Capitol St NW, Washington, DC 20002
Review:
“This is my favorite bookstore! They have a wonderful collection of curated books. The recommended picks are fun to browse through. I can count on Bol to introduce me to a range of new and diverse group of authors.
Located in a cafe (which serves excellent coffee) is an added bonus!”February 9, 2025 at 10:52 pm #1136976Fiona Grant
Participant2/9/25: Bonus. A major bonus of my ride around the Arboretum was getting to pretend I was in Greece – and enjoying the scudding clouds behind the capitol columns.

Participant2/9/25 BONUS
A BONUS of living in Reston is the 55 miles of paved trails for pedestrians and cyclists. Today, a BONUS to riding the trails in Reston was avoiding some of the worst of the winds!

Participant2/9/2025 BONUS
Having a paved bike trail through Bethesda is always appreciated. But this one also has the bonus of seating, bike racks, a bicycle work station, a poster with a map, and even artwork at the entrance.

Participant2/9/25 – BONUS
I live right by the w&od /Custis intersection. The Custis has lights that go on at dusk, as does the section of the w&od that runs between the Custis & the turnoff to the East Falls Church metro station. That’s also a plow route.
Another BONUS is this great pedestrian overpass which exits the trail at the Madison Manor exit, goes over rt 66 & leads to a paved trail going down the other side – with lights that go on at dusk there too!
The biggest BONUS about the overpass is that if you you approach it from the paved trail on the other side, the entrance is not visible until you’re almost upon it. Makes me think of Station 9 & 3/4 in the Harry Potter series. I always need a dose of pixie dust in my day, so that’s a super BONUS for me 🤩
Can you see the entrance in the wall on the left there? Yeah me neither. But it’s right there. If I took ONE step up & took another pic it would be obvious. (If we were allowed 2 pix in this context I woulda taken that one too & put them side by side.)
