    1/2 chose – Despite the added hill, I CHOSE a detour to this house that always puts up an amazing Christmas menagerie to see what animals they CHOSE to feature this year. Which was CHOSEn? They couldn’t CHOoSE just one, so instead CHOSE to show them all.

    1/3/25 – chose

    I was SO pleased to see that Arlington CHOSE to have brine lines drizzled onto the trail. Surprised they chose not to brine the Custis  too, cuz for the past 5-10 years it’s been the Custis that’s gotten brined & plowed, while the w&od, until the last 2-3 years, was neglected. I took this pic from little falls street looking towards the Pete Beers memorial bridge (the new bridge over Langston Blvd) taken from the falls church side, looking towards Arlington.

    Location of The Chosen Chef Catering & Events according to Google Maps

    The location of The Chosen Chef Catering and Events at Franklin & 10th NE near Right Proper Brewing, according to Google Maps. In any case, this was pretty as well as all the catering trucks.

    Nadine, I have to take off my FS Scavenger Hunt hat for a minute and put on my Friends of the W&OD hat. There is an agreement between NOVAPark (W&OD) and Arlington under which Arlington can clear the trail of snow and ice as they see fit and wish to do within their jurisdiction. There is no such agreement further west on the W&OD, so IF anything is done, it will only be in Arlington. That said, there are many people in Arlington who are concerned about chemicals/brine going into the water, so that may be why there’s intermittent treatment of the pavement.

    Also, the bridge over Langston Blvd is NOT the Pete Beers memorial bridge. I knew Pete well and miss him, so this is no disrespect to him. But NOVA Parks doesn’t name features of the trail after individuals, but rather the locations where they exist. I just wanted to set the record straight since some people playing FS may not be familiar with the bridge and might start looking for one with that name. It is best to not perpetuate this misdesignation.

    Okay, back to Freezing Saddles hat (helmet?). I loved the way you saw the never center in the trees. Very artful!
