Participant@sszibler, bolts are threaded fasteners that require opposing torque on both sides to lock in place, while rivets are smooth fasteners that are forced to expand by the tool that inserts them. Bolts can be removed and (maybe) reused, rivets need to be drilled out. When I took mechanics of materials in 2002, I-beams were generally joined using rivets, so I went riding through the new garage in Sprinfield hoping to get a shot of some rivets from the exposed roof supports. Instead, all bolts. I found what looked like rivets holding up a a sign and shot that instead.

Participant2/2 CHORE
Mowing this hill must be quite a chore with the steep slope and tight paths between those trees.

Participant2/2/25 – CHORE
I woke feeling off today for no reason I can figure out, so despite great people and a large group (for a ride in the 30s!) the group ride I’d been so excited about felt like a CHORE! My gut is sore, & complained at all the climbs. Of course one of the first places my ride took us was up Hunter Station… I promptly announced my plan to bail at the top,and got the group to pose for a pic….
Glad I got to meet my teammate Simon though, & a few 🐿️ dodgers. Also great to see James H again (teammate from 2 yrs ago) and of course my team MVP Pablo 🎊🥳💪🏼💪🏽

ParticipantThanks, CD, that’s kind of what I thought, but the definitions out there are confusing when they literally throw the word “bolts” into the mix, and I just happen to like rails more than the truck and folding, Metal accordion door I took pics of. Actually, the accordion door is a good composition, but I like rails and the history of trolleys in DC and wondered if anyone knew.
So, do you think these rail bolts are supplementary to a rivet, or totally holding them on and not really a rivet? Is there crossover?
Either way, I think the point here is just to get a post up talking about rivets! That’s what we seem to be doing with everything else. Just work the word in somehow 😂
So, I guess my question should be – Does a bolt attached imply that it’s not a rivet because it must be threaded on, or can it be both, expanded in the smooth metal, and threaded on at the ends? Why does this bolt definition exist?
Definitely, a Dull Men’s post subject

Participant2/2/25: Chore – Shopping doesn’t feel like a chore when you’re errandeuring at the Farmer’s Market.
February 2, 2025 at 8:25 pm #1136744Indiana
Participant2/2 chore
Shopping on the bike ride, a chore made not so bad by a fun store, plus public art, so two pointless prize photos in one makes it less of a chore

ParticipantHey @Fiona Grant that’s my go -to year round vendor! We do farmers market pretty seriously. During the warmer half of the year (may-nov) there’s a family farm that literally supplies most of our produce needs. At this time of year, though, we hafta supplement with a weekly trip to the Asian grocery.

Biking and getting rides in for FS is always wonderful, but it’s been a real CHORE to get to and from the bike rental store. Have to either walk 3.5 miles which involves some walking in sand and climbing and walking on a stone wall OR paying for a taxi or Uber. Here was the Uber route home from my bike ride today.

Participant2/2 – redoing the kitchen can be a CHORE, unless you hire this company
