#scavhunt – 3/17/2024 – I think a few of these people may have been having a SNORT of Jamesons or Tullamore Dew for St Patrick’s Day

The bison snort not only as a warning, but as a social vocalization

    3/17/24 – SNORT

I was psyched about this one. You hafta know the PDEastman’s children’s book to appreciate it. I wanted to post a link to the book, but I can’t get the complete book online, and my husband thinks our copy is somewhere in the attic (cuz our “kids” are 26 & 30) so Ima do my best here. This is a preview of the beginning of the book, followed by a pic of the relevant page (not my #scavhunt pic, but background.) Click on this linkfor the first few pages of the book:

    https://books.google.com/books/about/Are_You_My_Mother.html?id=Et9gd7otqj8C&printsec=frontcover&newbks=1&newbks_redir=0&source=gb_mobile_entity&hl=en&gl=US#v=onepage&q&f=false

    Here’s a plot synopsis:

A baby bird goes in search of his mother in this hilarious Beginner Book edited by Dr. Seuss. When a mother bird’s egg starts to jump, she hurries off to make sure she has something for her little one to eat. But as soon as she’s gone, out pops the baby bird. He immediately sets off to find his mother, but not knowing what she looks like makes it a challenge. The little hatchling is determined to find his mother, even after meeting a kitten, a hen, a dog, and a Snort

Now for the best part of the book, the page with the SNORT  – which appears after the previewed pages.

    Then my #scavhunt pic follows.

I climbed up an embankment & stepped over the orange mesh barrier to get this SNORT pic, at the sparrow pond w&od detour, while  @consularrider waited patiently at the bottom with the bikes 😁

    once

Once upon a time, there was a pig that would snort, sadly, his snorting days are over, but I did enjoy my bacon with my eggs and pancakes this morning.

3-17-24 SNORT: I stopped to take a picture of a beautiful tulip magnolia and was going to say something about allergies and pretty flowers, but then the Arkansas Razorback jumped in front of me. I am sure if he was not made of stone, he would SNORT.!

“A winter cycling competition?!” she scoffed with a snort. “Why, sure, I would enter that. When pigs fly!”

    Snort!

    3/17/24  Happy St. Patrick’s Day

You all have really knocked our socks off today – this is still very much a wide open game!

But to be “arbitrary and capricious” as promised, we will NOT be entering today’s or tomorrow’s winners into the spreadsheet. We will announce the daily winners and overall winner at the April 10 Closing Happy Hour.

The Holodomor Memorial depicts wheat (spelt)

This memorial is dedicated to the millions of people of Ukraine who perished in the man-made famine of 1932-1933 known as the Holodomor – death by starvation. Joseph Stalin, the leader of the Soviet Union, wanted to rapidly transform the country into an industrialized, Russian-led, communist world power. Part of the plan was to collectivize agriculture, meaning farmers had to surrender their crop to the state for redistribution among the entire population. The plan led to widespread starvation, which some scholars argue was intentional.

@ChristinaSwartz – I never knew that a memorial for the Holodomor existed outside Ukraine! I googled it and now have the location to go see it when I return to DC. Thank you for posting this!
