ParticipantW&OD from Shreve to 4MR was fine, with the usual suspects of ice still remaining. Just a slight brake check instead of full on snow crawl speed was sufficient though!

ParticipantThe worst section of the Custis is where it always is, the stretch from mile post 3 (just east of Sprout Run) going behind the apartments, past the bridge to nowhere, over the moguls, and down to Veitch St. Unfortuntately this morning there was a lot of traffic on that stretch when I went through just before 8.

ParticipantSeveral sections west of Gallows to Park St in Vienna are passable in shady spots but my 32mm slicks were fine through this due to the dusting of snow on top of the ice providing some sort of traction. Personally, it seemed to help me lowering the PSI levels to 50/45.

My rims have a max PSI of 45, although I’ll go to 60 sometimes since I think that limit is more of a recommendation for CX racing. But often I’m in the 20s/30s… and love it.

Thank you, sir. Just heading into the office.
No problem. I couldn’t report on anything else since I only rode the trail in from the Spiral o’ Doom.

ParticipantPrince George’s county commute trails were in good shape this morning. A few very small ice/snow spots where the NW branch sidepath runs along Armentrout Road, under the bridge overpass at River Road, and down by the rail bridge construction site. Otherwise dry. Road tires fine if you just soft pedal or Flintstone those short sections.

ParticipantCustis from Bergman’s to Rosslyn: If it is in the sun, there is pavement. If not, it is icy refreeze and Fred Flinstone is recommended
MVT Rosslyn to 14th St Bridge: If it is in the sun, there is pavement. Otherwise, there are occasional gaggles of meandering geese. Approach with extreme caution. Just yell “Christmas Means Carnage” over and over.
14th St Bridge: Clear

ParticipantI exited the north tunnel of the humpback bridge right into a gaggle of honkers. I rang my bell – not even a neck turn. I started yelling, “Hee-Yonk, Hee-Yonk, Hee-Yong-eet” That got their attention. I never knew I could curse in Canada Goose.

ParticipantBe careful when they start producing offspring. They can get rather aggressive then.

Can confirm. Dusk, around Great Falls: the geese cross, with family, from the river into the canal. You know how, when bicycling or pedestrianing, you get all angry and want to smack the face of drivers who stray into the crosswalk even after seeing you? That’s what the geese seem to feel about errant cyclists.

Ah, the less publicized “War on Geese”

I love ’em in the sky (as long as not directly overhead), and I hate ’em on the ground! It’s bad enough having mud, road salt and winter grime on my tires, frame, and legs, but I draw the line on goose feces. They’re POOPERS, not HONKERS and I wish they’d just stay off the trail!

ParticipantA couple years ago, I got blocked off the MVT by a large flock of geese. I think they had some babies with them. They weren’t even on the trail, just off to the side. But every time I tried to continue on the path, some of them started hissing at me. Not all of them were aggressive, but I didn’t want to have 30 angry Canada geese coming after me.
I think I was able to sneak by eventually, but it was not a pleasant situation.

ParticipantTrail conditions: There are no trails. They blew away. Sorry.

ParticipantI just don’t think the icy/snow patches between Park St. and Gallows in Vienna are going to stay as they are. Pretty sure they’re going to transform into more icy/slick patches so just going to take Electric/Follin Ave. Not that much out of the way…
