; I have contacted Arlco before about this particular junction on the trail. The trashcan stuff was overflowing and blocking the curb cut.
It is quite clear that this shopping center thinks little about the bike trail. There are “no bike trail” parking signs in the parking lot and the only bike parking is poorly placed and anemic.
There was some talk about putting a CABI station there at the turn in the trail as it turns west to go to the cork skrew. These problems to me support why I think this would be a poor choice of a location.
Last I had heard, the property management could not find a suitable a location for a bikeshare station there so we’ll have to look elsewhere.

ParticipantHere’s the letter sent from MoCo Councilman Berliner and four other Councilmembers to Parks Dept about plowing CCT.
Key graph:
“Specifically, I would like to request that you prepare an estimate for snow removal and winter maintenance on the trail in time for the Transportation, Infrastructure, Energy and Environment Committee to review that figure during the Council’s budget deliberations this April.
In my opinion, not maintaining the Capital Crescent Trail does not only a great disservice to residents who rely on the trail for commuting purposes, but also to the County’s goal of being a more walkable and bikeable community.”If you use the CCT, please send email thanks to Berliner and other signees:

ParticipantCustis is now nice and dry.
I ran tonight from Lee Highway/Lyon Village shopping center to the Ballston Beaver Pond and there was very little snow or slush left on the trail, and no ice at all. The large pile of snow behind Lyon Village is much smaller; I don’t believe it is blocking the trail.

ParticipantTalked to NVRPA again. To sum up: they will never plow or treat but will do a snow blower only at 6″ of snow or above. However, I was promised they would snow blow into Vienna (this week at least) and it evidently never happened. It gets complicated when the local authorities take it upon themselves to rid the snow (FC and Arlington). Weird. Hopefully we’re done with this anyway..

Oh, I thought it did happen? It definitely looked like a snowblower or something had been used between Gallows and Park St, though there were some ugly patches from Park to Maple, so maybe not there? (West of Vienna, less sure, but that part wasn’t that bad for riding so not sure if I would have really noticed.)

ParticipantLyon village did remove the huge blockage, but their access ramp as it stands will takes weeks to melt open. Riding is back to normal except for occasional piles blocking Ped ramps. Enjoy the warm rain!

ParticipantI think it was a combo of melting and trail use but hey, could be wrong.

To me it just looked too neat/straight especially contrasting to the amount of snow still on the shoulders.

ParticipantTo be honest, you may be right, but just up the trail from this photo it’s not nearly as neatly pushed aside. Who knows

ParticipantThe connector trail between Tapawingo Road and the condos by the Vienna Metro Station was still a bit icy/slushy in long stretches this morning. Tackled just fine on my studded mountain bike tires. HOWEVER, the giant snow berm blocking the entrance to the trail on the Tapawingo end was not surmountable. I walked the bike past that.

ParticipantI reported Lyon Village from here to kingdom come yesterday. I was pleasantly surprised to see the pile moved, though disappointed that they’re still blocking the ramp, and that the blockage on Scott St is still there. Off to report again.
http://egov.arlingtonva.us/snowrequest/Home/ESRI (You can zoom in to pin a location)
(Scott St)
The curb cut on the NW corner of the Custis Trail / Lee Highway and Scott St N is mostly blocked with a large pile of snow. It will not melt quickly due to its size, and is causing a safety hazard. This is a heavily traveled multi-use path, and this impediment deserves immediate attention.
(Lyon Village)
Thank you to whomever was able to move the large pile of snow off of the Custis Trail at this location. Unfortunately, the snow was partially moved onto the curb cut used by most people to access the trail. There is a large amount of snow on this curb cut, and it is not expected to melt quickly. Hopefully, someone can finish the job and restore access to the trail. -
