ParticipantI feel like I’ve dragged my team (go C squad!) down the last couple days, as I’ve been battling an infected sinus and I’m trying to rest up. But tomorrow I’ll be back on track! And hopefully we’ll be back in the top 10.

ParticipantI saw a ped get struck here while I was riding my motorcycle and have almost been rear ended as well…it’s just a terrible intersection all around. I drive 1-2x a week and sweat this intersection every time. On one hand, I want to stop for peds, but on the other, I don’t want to get nailed when the person driving behind me is texting or whatever and can’t stop in time. Even just some of those squiggly white lines and maybe a flashing yellow light that says “crosswalk ahead, lookout for peds” or something like that. Right now, the crosswalk sign is located right at the crosswalk and, at 50mph, it’s difficult to see (I won’t even get into the speed issues on the pkwy…). A sign a bit further from the crosswalk would at least alert people that they need to keep their eyes up…many people now just don’t expect the crosswalk given the freeway-ish design of the road.
Something as simple as this…(if you want to see them in person, there is a set at the W&OD and Belmont Ridge Rd. just east of Leesburg)

I’m having fun with this challenge. It is cool to see the numbers change throughout the day and as the days go by. Cool to see so many passionate Bike Arlington Forum folks riding their bikes so much. Cool stuff!
I find it’s also giving me added motivation to stay on track with my training for my first century ride coming up in two weeks…my training basically consists of packing on miles with a variety of terrains, so the challenge pushes me to add extra miles after work and on the weekends to up my team’s ranking. I also think it’s awesome that the DC area teams are doing so well so consistently…I think it says a lot about involved DC riders are in advocacy and furthering cycling both as a sport and a lifestyle.

I just put up a 65 mile RT to B’more for the C team. What a great ride! Learned an excellent route (hint TJROW…)
However, I know that one of my colleagues from work is in vacation and hasn’t posted her rides for the B team, so I expect that will boost the B’s totals a lot when she gets back.
PS Dada (dbb) sighting at the Kinetic Sculpture race (but I don’t have photographic evidence). The 1% floated (lots of pictures coming I’m sure)!
And I just did 55 miles up and around Poolesville…sounds like C is finishing strong this week!

ParticipantMy goal now is to beat the “Riders Against Bike Lanes” team. The infrastructure advocates must beat the VCs!

ParticipantSo do you put on a fresh set of bike gear when you ride home? I just commute home in the same bike gear I wear on my commute in and just let it hang dry during the day in the locker room (just don’t leave it in a locker…it will NOT dry). An alternative for you, since it sounds like maybe you don’t have a locker room, might be a large restroom in your office. Some have coat hooks, so just put your workout clothes on a hanger and let them dry in there during the day.

ParticipantC squad is 6th overall…just puttin’ that out there. I actually rode the motorcycle to work today, but I picked up Chinese food on the bike to get some points down. I think this competition would be much more interesting in the winter, though, but I would not do well.

The ringers have been fed. The ringers have ridden. Waiting for the LEADERBOARD to update! 😡
I just put up 54ish points, which I think puts the Cs ahead of the B squad!

ParticipantI have a set of Delta Axle Rodz on my commuter. They don’t lock, but they aren’t QR. I figure that’s enough of a deterrent for the situations I need them for, like errands. I don’t leave my bike out for more than like an hour, and I always have a hex tool, so that’s not a concern, and it cuts out the need for a extra special tool.

ParticipantC Team is just 5 points behind B team…and both are beating the snot out of A and the *ahem* FCC…

ParticipantI like the Poolesville loop. Hardly any traffic, decent hills, and great scenery. You can actually ride out there from DC, but it’s like a century ride to do it round trip, so I drive up there and park at the high school. http://bikewashington.org/ has lots of other routes with maps and cue sheets, so it’s a great resource.

ParticipantI found the Glencarlyn path on accident and I was none too pleased. And I was in the wrong gear and it was too late to downshift. I think it’s a decent amount steeper than 41st, unless you count the walkway part, I think that’s about the same.

3. No matter how much you try to ride in the drops on a CaBi to make it go faster, there will be no drops.
OMG, this could be a goldmine…sell/rent clip on bar ends/drops/aero bars/power meters for CaBis and you’d make a killing.

(I’m onboard with every one, except 7. Because that’s just unacceptable.)
But if we did all that, there would never be any postings in the commuter forum!

ParticipantSaw these nice families on the tow path this morning…they didn’t seem to mind me being there, except when I got a little close, then they hissed at me.
