Showering is optional if no one is in the office.
My department is only reducing staffing by 25% at any given time, so hygiene will still be a concern…

ParticipantI was a little concerned that the gym at my building would be closed this morning (or would close at noon or something), but thankfully it’s open and will remain accessible to essential employees during the shutdown. A gym closure would’ve made bike commuting during the shutdown a non-starter for me…

ParticipantI’ve been deemed essential, so no time off for me, regardless. But I will still be riding more than the last couple weeks because I’m finally over my respiratory infection.

ParticipantThe riverside lane of the CCT was a nightmare, with black ice and packed snow for long stretches. I was very glad to have studs. Below Foundry Branch, it was also unplowed and fairly treacherous. The RCP trail also had lots of black ice and packed snow.

ParticipantAbout a half inch of snow on the DC section of the CCT. Might be suboptimal on skinny tires, but those on gravel or CX tires will have a fun ride. Unless, like me, you’re riding north into the headwind this morning…

ParticipantI had some issues getting my gravel tires to seat after a puncture a few weeks ago…putting the tires on and letting them sit by a furnace vent for a few hours made a big difference. But to avoid the issue in the future I broke down and bought an Airshot Inflator. Definitely a worthwhile investment, and cheaper and smaller than a legit compressor.

ParticipantHey team! I’m sorry I wasn’t able to make the happy hour, but I came down with a nasty respiratory infection yesterday morning and spent most of the day in the fetal position on my couch.
Anyway, I’m Marc. I typically ride 2-4 times a week depending on weather and my work schedule. But my commute is 25 miles, so I make up for infrequency with distance. I’m not a huge fan of recreational rides in the cold, but I’m gonna try to do a few this BAFS season.
I live in Capitol Hill but commute to McLean, so I’d definitely be down for post-work social rides on the C&O or the ART especially.
Oh, and an important note. I keep my commutes private on Strava, so I don’t show up on the Strava leaderboard, but everything does get counted on the BAFS website.

ParticipantI feel like you might’ve liked this on Facebook, but there’s a 200k option…

I don’t even see that as an option in GC. I can only add manual activities.
Aha…I’m actually surprised. I just assumed it would have that functionality, but like I said, it’s not something I ever thought to actually look for in the app.

I assume he uses Strava ON HIS PHONE.
Hence it isn’t going to upload to Garmin Connect without some help.
He said:
I currently have my accounts synced such that Strava pulls from Garmin Connect.
So using GC to actually track the rides (admittedly I’ve never even considered doing this), but wanting to use Strava. If the phone is an iPhone, I wonder if the Wellness plan could pull from Apple Health? Apple Health will pull in data from Strava and spit it out to whatever other programs you authorize.

Question–I have it set so Strava and Garmin Connect automatically sync, usually within a few seconds of my garmin uploading a ride to Connect. Why do you prefer it goes the opposite way? Is the auto-sync from connect to Strava dropping data or something? I show up on BAFS leaderboards and everything else fine with the auto-sync enabled, so I’m just trying to understand why it doesn’t work for you.
I guess maybe if his Garmin device doesn’t have BT and he has to manually upload rides? Like you, I turn on my Garmin, it auto-connects to my phone, auto-uploads the ride to GC when I’m done, then GC automatically sends the ride to Strava. It’s rare that I ever open the GC app or website (or Strava, for that matter).

Sunyata, here is my take:
The idea behind a vapor barrier – create a micro-climate between your skin and the vapor barrier. Nothing in, nothing out. When your foot sweats it will add moisture to the micro-climate, at some point there will be so much moisture in the micro-climate that no more can be added thus you stop sweating. Ideally you wouldn’t sweat at all and have a nice warm and dry micro-climate.
That is definitely not how sweating works.

Huh.
My 810 only shows weather/temperature data from nearby weather stations…it doesn’t read any temperatures at the device. Its rated down to -20C/-6F – its been working fine these days, despite windchill numbers at least as low as those.I think it depends on how you set it up through Garmin Connect. I, like you, have mine set to take temp data from the Garmin Connect app, but I assume that if you turn this function off the device defaults to the internal thermometer (which is what the 800 and 500 do, since they don’t have bluetooth).

If you ride by there, why not be a good samaritan and carry it back to shore?
Because it was out on f*&cking ice and I’m not risking falling through and getting hypothermia for that shit. Also, I was wearing road shoes and in a hurry to get to work, so climbing down an icy embankment and waddling across 30 feet of ice with a 50 pound bike didn’t seem like a good use of my time. I wasn’t even going to stop for a photo, but at the last second decided I should just so I could let Ofo know that they needed to retrieve it. The bike was gone by the time I rode by last night.
