Plowed this afternoon
Thanks for that info. Roosevelt Bridge is indeed passable, will have to let D.C. know it’s appreciated. There are a few spots where I66 plows must have pushed some touch ups onto the walk.
And on my approach even the TR Island project Mulchweg was rideable!

ParticipantFirst of all, KUDOS to Arlington on the nicely cleared Custis trail!! 😎 Just watch out at the Spout Run Bridge Rink.
Anyone tried the TR bridge to see if they (as usual) plowed all the slush onto the sidewalk to become an impassable mess? Gee it would be nice if there were more webcams around TR bridge! Ahh, I feel a Mem. Br. detour coming on…

ParticipantRoosevelt Island lot and trail were still uncleared and nearly unridable this AM due to slush, even with 2.1″ tires on a 29er. Amazingly Roosevelt Bridge sidewalk was good!

ParticipantCustis was quite bad from Spout Run bridge until well over the hump on the way to Rosslyn. Bad ice on the turn onto the ped/bike bridge over GW parkway. TR Bridge is fine.

I rode the TR bridge this morning with studded tires. I would not attempt it with regular tires. Most of the bridge and ramp is covered with frozen ruts. It was a real challenge and I am trying to decide if I am more afraid of the cars in G’town (and taking the Key Bridge back to Custis), or of going back over the TR bridge back home. I did feel like a real hero after I crossed the bridge. . . still trying to decide.
I’ve been taking Memorial (nice) and dealing with the MVT’s 8″ open track with occasional smooth ice and ruts for a slow ride between there and the immaculate TR lot. That’s on std 700×28 tires.

ParticipantAnyone attempt/look at the TR bridge sidewalk lately?

ParticipantI’ve finally bought a chain cleaning gimzmo, for better or worse. And I crossed that bridge 20 min ago, it’s getting treacherous…

ParticipantA thin sanding would work wonders on that Custis Spout Run bridge, for peds and bikes alike. Bad, bad drainage design (or total lack thereof…)

ParticipantStill in love with the Custis! MVT from TR Br to Mem Br 8″ track not YET frozen. Good for your McAss Skills….

ParticipantWell, I’m a toe clip guy so I just put on the Merrill boots and thick sox. Plus keep ye core warm and the extremities will fall into line. And, I recommend real HD mittens, hiking style (mine are Northern Face). Just don’t freeze to death like some danged Hipster in flip flops and shorts on a fixie… I Rode to wrk yesterday in 5F and was a bit too warm, not bad for a sex-a-genarian…[emoji1]

ParticipantAll I can say is Arlington rocks and yesterday the Custis was a beautiful harbor, safety from the Chaos of NPS paths…
