Hmmmm. This should be a .gif. For those who have not seen Monty Python and the Holy Grail, here’s the reference: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zqtS9xyl0f4

ParticipantCan’t make this one, but does anyone know about other viewing parties, especially on weekends? I’d love to catch it live from somewhere other than my couch.

ParticipantNot an accident, but a medical emergency. The cyclist was riding when he suddenly swerved left and collapsed off his bike onto the side of the path. He was riding with a couple of his friends, and a few doctors stopped to help. I left when the EMTs arrived, at that point he still wasn’t very responsive. They had to use the AED a couple times. I hope he’s alright.

I might ride my Breezer with the trekking bar to the next Crystal City Coffee Club… err.. if i get up early enough… My bike size is in the 54-ish range.
I’m also a regular at the 3rd Thursday monthly happy hours.
Awesome! I’ve been delinquent the past few weeks with travel and house-sitting, I’ll try my best to be there.

I haven’t been there in more than a year so I don’t know what their inventory looks like at the moment,
but The Old Bike Shop has quite a few random used bikes for sale that may have touring bars on em. Could call and ask.
The guy there recommended to me to check out Jones Bars which, the Loop bar, along with my Brooks Cambium saddle, are the only bike related items I don’t regret purchasing. But they didn’t have any in stock, dunno if there are any places around here connected with Jones. Thanks! OBS isn’t far from my apartment, but I haven’t had a chance to pop in. I’ll shoot them an email. Was checking out some Jones bars today, too, may have to add them to the trial list.

REI sells a model with trekking bars.

I’ve never had the vibe from REI that I can just walk in a give one of their bikes a test ride without any intention of buying one.

My husband was the second accident following the lady in the front. He was slowing down with hands on the brakes and someone hit him from behind at almost max speed. He suffered a broken ankle and dislocated shoulder. He is searching for any gopro footage from when he was hit if anyone has it – his number was 1284 I believe. We are having to deal with insurance to replace the bike. Thanks!
Was this the pileup involving several cyclists? One of the bikes that came back from that wreck did have a GoPro on it, an Arlington County police officer came by later to collect it. I would contact ACPD and see if they have the footage and are able to share it.

If we talk about this issue here, does it come to the attention of the organizers and planners of the ride? Or does it disappear into the ether?
I know some folks at ASI and will forward this thread to them.

ParticipantJust looking at photos of the Uptown 8 online, plus a few other of the Uptown models, I think the 8 does have a rear derailleur hanger. (At least, if they use the same frame for all the Uptown models, then your bike should have a hanger.)

ParticipantMy commute was great, but witnessed two very close calls this morning: S. Joyce St. & Army Navy Drive in Arlington, and 20th St. NW & New Hampshire Ave in the city. Unfortunately both were due in large part to reckless behavior by the cyclists. With all the new folks out commuting now, I wonder if there needs to be a little public education campaign about safety.

ParticipantI just wish they would have warned us about the mandatory cyclocross training. Every morning for the past three days, I’ve had to ride in the shoulder of 27 because the tree removal crews were blocking the sidewalk. At least traffic kept the cars from moving too quickly.

With a few tips from chris_s, I’m actually trying to build a (fairly simple) website where people can input the general route of their commute, and anyone who needs a buddy can look up routes and contact those folks. I’m not a pro, however, so it may take a bit of time to get up and running.
It looks like WABA is already on it, at least via a Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/wmatabikepool/ (Glad to see they’re reviving the #wmatabikepool moniker!) Anyway, I would recommend folks go there because it will surely be much more useful than anything I can cook up at the moment.

ParticipantToday, evening rush hour, near the Kennedy Center.
You: Driving your moped northbound along the busy Rock Creek Park Trail.
Me: Riding my bike southbound, reacting something like this:
Despite you also driving with earbuds in, I’m assuming you heard me yelling at you. I looked back as you passed me, and I’m hoping that you slowing down and putting your right blinker on meant you were going to get back onto the road. For the sake of all the other cyclists and pedestrians on the path, I sure hope I’m right.
