I rode from NY to DC a few years ago with Climate Ride as part of Team WABA. The Climate Ride folks did a great job with support. WABA is a beneficiary again this year, but is listed under Virginia and Maryland for some reason. Statehood?

Go for it Kitty!! I’d buy cookies from you if you came to coffee clubs!

All the coffee clubs are on the FS Official-ish calendar, which you can find on the FS home page.
Also, other rides, social gatherings and bicycling events of interest may be found, like happy hours and Midnight Saddles rides.

Ok now explain FS to this new person. In 2 sentences or less.

My take: ride like the wind in winter

No one is going to look down on you as long as the above statement is true. The only e-bikes that tend to raise everyone’s cackles are those ridden by people that go zooming down the trails at 20-25 mph making close passes.

I think it’s awesome that your motivation is to ride with your daughter. Hope to see you out on the trails or at a coffee club.

I agree with all the folks above . Welcome to the community! Glad you want to get out and ride again and also that your daughter wants to.

Also I would add that The only *bikes* (e-bike or not) that tend to raise everyone’s cackles are those ridden by people that go zooming down the trails at 20-25 mph making close passes.

The trails are for walkers, runners, cyclists and little kids.

I definitely wanted to join the Midnight Saddles crew, but as I biked to Baltimore (baby’s first metric century+) with Judd and Komorebi earlier I don’t exactly regret spending the evening resting and watching the Caps lose. Hope to be a part of the next one!

Good for you on the metric century Bill. I’m working my way up to that!

I’d like to do happy hour this Friday night 4/14 – in DC somewhere.
Right Proper in Shaw = good idea?

(I had thought the Thurs. HH was tomorrow. I was confused) (and I cannot make Saturday’s Midnight Saddles ride -again!).

So would you come to Right Proper in Shaw on Friday?

I was going to suggest Dew Drop Inn in Brookland, which I think is cool – but maybe no bike parking there. thoughts?

If I get a couple replies, I’ll set up a new event!

Update – its a broken hand, I am afraid, not just a finger. Right hand, so yes, the railing. She is grateful for the sympathy from y’all. She has a real cool hi tech cast (she has broken bones before, not biking, so is familiar). She is left handed, so she can still drive and do most things she needs to do.

Oh no. Darn! Sending healing wishes!

I remember the cabin, but fuzzy on the details leading up to it. Is it straight up, rocky, and ridiculous, because I remember a few of those climbs as well. If so, the answer to what you are wondering is:

That’s at about mile 5 on my Strava?

Maybe I’m just weaksauce, or my buddy Andy is a beast, but he climbed more and was much faster than me on his singlespeed (in the foreground), than I was on my 2×10. He did do the SM100 faster than me on his rigid fixie though :D

So, why all those packs instead of panniers? Rockford and I did the ride out to Harpers Ferry, and I thought my panniers front and rear were great. What is it that I don’t know? Is it just lighter without the racks?

Also, half of Harpers Ferry burned down the night after we left, but that’s another story.

Additionally, the place we stayed in Harpers Ferry was featured on Hotel Hell a little while after we left. Also another story.

Sounds like some good stories. Next time I see you or Rockford I’ll try to pry these stories out of you!
