It’s possible to safely aim for a high speed on that short section of the Custis, and there’s no side-entry possibilities, and the upturn of the hill will quickly slow you. That said, top speed efforts are generally best left to the roads. Military Road, just north of there, is a good place for that – smooth asphalt, good sight lines, etc.
And yep, hit 51mph coming down Mt. Weather last weekend. We’ll not discuss my speed going up it.
I always make sure the way is clear on the top of the second hill or else I abort my speed attempt.
