ParticipantRide up the sidewalk, lock my bike to the rack, walk inside, grab my rain cover, walk back outside, cover bike.
I was just getting really jealous about all of your covered parking, and sad about my lack of it, so I thought I’d post mine.

I wonder if I could persuade Citibikes to put a station at 12th St and D SW
They would, but Amtrak won’t allow you to bring it aboard.

A bunch of people in my office are getting the arms that allow you to move your keyboard, mouse and monitor up to stand or down to sit. It’s very popular.
I would probably get it but I’m off to a detail soon…
The thing I found difficult about this set-up (I used it for a bit) was that as much as I use my computer at work, I also use paper files quite a bit. This type of set-up really only allows you to use a computer standing, but none of your other work items like phones or files. A true elevated desk works much better IMO, but again, I want a treadmill desk!

If sitting is the problem come work for me Bob, I have plenty you can do and it all involves standing.
Looking for completely unskilled helpers!? If so, I’m in! I’d love to learn a little and see how stuff gets built. I’d be more than happy to provide some free weekend labor to do so.

ParticipantI didn’t like standing desks because my feet hurt by day’s endand my body ached a little (this is probably just because of bad posture). I really, really want to try a treadmill desk, but that’s just not in the cards right now. I think the slight movement would help with some of the pain of just standing still.

You’ve obviously never ridden Mikey’s pedicab.

ParticipantEven from a recumbent trike, Pete can take downward angle pictures of you riding behind him.

Foot-down stop at all stop signs.
If you think for one second that I wouldn’t drag my foot on the ground while moving at a high rate of speed in order to win, you’d be wrong.
I wish I could do this, but unlikely to be possible if this is a weekday race. Still a great idea. Over/under on high speed reached during the competition? 22mph?

Baloney. Pure and simple baloney.
Just because we should have the right to not being endangered and not having some drivers hate us, doesn’t mean we actually have it. I don’t think real life works like that. I think Dickie’s point has something to do with advocacy, and the fact that as a group we are trying to overcome something here, which is a car-centric way of thinking. If you think those rights are just going to be handed to us all, I think that is wishfull thinking. It’s through a lot of advocacy, education, etc. that things will change. Part of that is trying to do things the right way, it is very important from an advocacy standpoint.
That being said, I know there is a lot of grey area with lights, especially in less trafficed areas. My attitude about red lights at 530am is sometimes different than at 530pm because of traffic and safety. I think the biggest problem is that the laws of the road are generally seen as universal for all road users, but that makes no sense to me. A bike is VERY different from a car: size, weight, acceleration, top speed, etc. What I would like to see is more road laws that identify bike provisions, to stop acting like we’re all the exact same road users.

Stafford should be one way.
Are you saying always or just during drop-off/pick-up? If the latter, then I agree. I also wish that if schools have a pick-up/drop-off zone, then it be more enforced to be used. Key Elementary has Key as a one way road during these times, which seems smart and to work well, but lots of folks still use Veitch, which always involves some mid-block crossing by parents and their kids. I figure what’s the point in making Key one way if it’s not the mandatory exit?

ParticipantGotcha. Well thanks for sharing. I really like how you did it. I’ve run into a similar problem just using upright superstands to park my bikes in the apartment. The stays on the fender go too wide to fit thru, so I have to just lean my bike with fenders.
One thing you might be able to do is back the bike into the spot and then tilt it backward as far as you can before the fender contacts the ground, and hook the top of the front wheel from there. It won’t be as upright as the others, but make take up a little less space than just backing it in and leaving it flat on the ground. Just my two cents.

My latest construction project…Where only two bikes used to fit, now fit four…
That looks great! One quick question: do the back wheels (front for the Volpe) touch the floor? Just curious if they are hanging from the hooks or resting on the ground with the hooks just keeping them upright.
