ParticipantI believe they are posting it on YouTube by the end of the weekend. I can’t remember where I saw that, but fairly sure I read it.
edit:
yea, they say it here: http://www.arlnow.com/2013/10/09/arlington-to-premiere-bike-umentary-thursday-night/Steve
ParticipantI’d wait for an REI or Hudson Trail to have a sale of some kind. IMO, the 45+ degree range can usually be handled with just some normal layering, and so all I need is a waterproof shell with normally layered base. Below that, I tend to want pretty thick wind/water proof materials.

ParticipantI don’t know why ArlCo does trail counts. If you read enough threads, you realize two things:
1. Consularrider is on every trail, at all times.
2. Consularrider is always counting. They should just ask him.

Actually in my opinion, the Pentagon sprawl seems to be less invasive than the transportation void that is the whole Rt. 50 corridor.
fixed!

I’ve had that thought before, but then I look at things like the Pentagon parking lot. The federal ownership of land in Arlington is a blessing and a curse. We could probably have smarter growth without it.
Yea, I kinda flip-flop on my feelings about the PNT area. On one hand, they won’t allow anyone to finish the trail around the south side, and make things pretty difficult on cyclists in general. The lack of CaBi seems silly too. That being said, they allow their front porch to be a huge bus terminal, not just for people going to work there, and buses are a huge part of a multi-modal world. You think if the PNT was CIA headquarters instead, that you’d have the bus terminal there? My guess is no, and the PNT has just as sensitive things going on inside as Langley. So they are pretty friendly to Metro and Bus, just not to cyclists. I’ll call that a split, especially because Metro and Bus take WAY more people out of cars than bikes do.

While it’s probably not the NPS’s fault it does make me sort of wish that none of these trails were under their jurisdiction in the first place.
Though the fact that NPS does own that land is probably the main reason that the VA side of the Potomac is a beautiful bike trail that winds thru some nice parkland. For that I think we should be thankful.

I noticed the full parking lot, but by the time we rolled through the barriers were back in place at the entrance and an NPD officer was driving out. Someone must have moved them early in the morning and it took awhile for NPS to notice.
Yup. I also saw some officers talking with a girl who was on the wrong side of the closed gate on the pedestrian bridge heading across to the island. She must’ve wanted some raspberries.

Yall could ride 15th St to Park to Beach to the GBT.
This is the ride we did and it was awesome! Thanks so much.
Also thanks @Kolohe. We didn’t have time to get lost because the shutdown took a while. I think I’ll be checking out the MBT this week if the shutdown lasts. Thanks again for all the advice.

ParticipantCCT was full of people around 11. There was a little sign closing it as Dirts picture showed, but it was easy to get around and seemingly no enforcement.
Same goes for Beach Drive which was closed to cars but no signs about bikes until about the Maryland state line, and
awesome to ride today! Again, we went around the sign at the north end, as a number of others had, and saw no enforcement.Just my $.02

ParticipantAnyone have status on Cap Crescent Trail being opened or closed? Rock Creek Park? MVT seemed open as normal. ART was open, but they disguised it as a sidewalk anyways, so they wouldn’t know to shut it.

Another option, (particularly if you’re already east at Anacostia) is MBT to Silver Spring
Thanks a lot. Quick question, is the MBT hard to follow between the path and on-street sections going back and forth? I’ve never actually rode on it, and would like to, I just want to make sure I don’t get lost on the ride (again, just due to my buddy’s time constraint). Again thanks for the great suggestions.

Don’t forget: Dirt and WABA think you’re essential! You could take a ride with them.

Oh I know it! And considering this one as well. The only problem is we have to come in to sign our notice in the morning, and so I figure I’ll start riding after that (around 7-
, and so by 1 my legs might be a little tired.

ParticipantIt would have been nice if there was a straight ramp on the side of the zig-zag path opposite the stairs (the zigzag would essentially be going back and forth from stairs to straight ramp path). It would be a steep little climb, but still probably better for most cyclists. I assume the zigzag is for ADA compliance, which makes sense.

ParticipantI’ll be there. And if the Government shuts down, I might chip in $10 and drink for two.
Steve
ParticipantHa! My federal computer blocked the website! Now that is brilliant.
Thanks for posting though. I’ll check it out when I get home.
