ParticipantThank you for sharing this. At first appearance, the first stage motor blew apart, and down it went.
Blunt reminder that we’re only making a dangerous thing *look* routine.
Meanwhile, some sailboat, probably out of Chincoteague, is in big trouble.
Found a slightly better NASA feed: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jHMmMgdcOSU
And this one, decidely rawer, from the press site: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MZ0SgAU9LXI

ParticipantGot myself what I *thought* was a good vantage point. Saw ISS easily and tracked it until it vanished from illumination, down low on the horizon. Didn’t see the launch, darn. Perhaps behind the trees… Keep trying, keep missing.
At this point, the only place I can guarantee seeing a launch is by going to Chincoteague… (There’s a bonus to that- my reference standard for B&Bs- http://www.channelbassinn.com/)

Participant[Sigh] It is now time for me to add a story to this thread…
The setup- Yours truly has just finished up his last service call of the day and is going to pick up his wife from Ft. McNair at about 7pm. Traveling southbound on South Capitol St, 2 blocks from my turn at M St, I notice a reasonably bright flashing headlight in that direction. On the far right of the road? Yes. But going which direction? Unknown. (mindful that I have seen riders *reverse* their lights & reflectors). Approaching my right turn at M. Signal, initiate my turn-in… NOW I see the bike attached to the light- going opposite direction in the crosswalk. Shit. Straighten up, brake, both parties avoid each other. Was a guy, dark hair, no helmet, on a dark bike with minimal if any reflectors.
Dude, if you’re on the forum, I was the dark red Saturn S who almost hit you. I AM SORRY.
Now, on multiple threads elsewhere, we were talking about how hard it is to judge speed and distance of a flashing light? That’s *exactly* what happened to me!
