And they have started boring holes for Phase II. 😮
rcannon100: Were you talking about the Fish Market end near 12th St SW, or the plaza at 7th, in front of the former (& soon to be gone) Channel Inn? I believe they’ve
started work on the sea wall- 1st step in Phase II.Starduster

I think we may need to question the mental state, though, of the Cat 6 racer. Aero helmet and, I can only imagine, in aero position in mid afternoon on an absolutely perfect spring day — what did he expect to find on the WOD?
I have also had the “pleasure” of being mowed down by an oncoming rider in time-trial haste (on the Mt Vernon Trail- in my case, the only harm was to my freshly-built wheel). In the W&OD mishap, the victim’s passing attempt was ill-advised, but it did not warrant what happened, or the severe injury suffered. I know I am preaching to the choir here (I *hope* I am anyway), but on these mixed-use trails, with slower riders, joggers, and *even* people walking, with varying degrees of inattention, *WE* are the biggest meanest mutha on the trail. As such, we have an obligation *not* to run anyone else off the road. Yes, there are times where you can go for it in the big ring… but *only* where an open road allows. No other time. If you *must* run a time-trial, do it on the road.
Hoping the victim is improving…
As for the time-trailer? Book ‘im, Danno!

Will I be able to get a rubber/plastic strip at your average bike shop?
Absolutely! But as the above posts show, there are a variety of widths for various rims. Best you bring the wheel (or the bike) into your LBS of choice.

ParticipantPapillon’s Cherry Blossom RAID update:
Ah, living & dying by the weather forecast. As of this morning, threat of snow/rain should subside by the time we roll Saturday morning. It *will* be rather cold, so dress for 40 degree weather.
Unless there is another dramatic change… we can do this!
Saturday. 10:30am. Be there. Aloha.

Im just up CP from your new place and while the Bailey’s Crossroads Giant is closer, the Harris Teeter in Shirlington is much easier and safer to get to & from by bike with groceries. If you must go to a Giant, I’d recommend the Giant across Glebe from 4MRT instead.

I concur. While there *will* be a new Harris Teeter at the Pike & George Mason, that section of Columbia Pike between George Mason and the W & OD crossing is even *less* appetizing to ride. All these years living here, I have never attempted it. (Do I get credit for good sense?)

ParticipantGood evening all! April will be here soon, warmer weather will *finally* be here as well. And Papillon Cycles has not one but two Cherry Blossom Rides going. The first, Saturday April 8, takes a scenic route (*not* Columbia Pike) across the river to East Potomac Park, a lap or two or three of Hains Point, lunch at the Wharf/Fisherman’s Market, at back via Mt Vernon Trail & Four Mile Run. As the weather gods would have it, the Cherry Blossoms are projected to hit their peak that weekend. Yes, it *will* be heavily populated by tourists, but with gracefulness, finesse, and patience, we managed it before, we can do it again. The second, Saturday April 14, is a destination ride to Sakura Matsuri, the wild & vibrant Japanese/American street festival. Back on Pennsylvania Avenue again, where it belongs.
Ride info and EventBrite listing here: http://papilloncycles.com/join-us-group-rides/
Be here. Aloha.

ParticipantGood morning all. We are sorry to announce that today’s ride is cancelled. Your Ride Leader got sick.
We *will* be picking up on these rides again in April and through the summer. In the meantime, if you can, ride somewhere today, and thank you!

No need to apologize – it’s just another exciting event in the city to plan around…and look at with jealousy.
Good luck!
Besides, it will be our turn soon- *we* get the road closures for the DC Bike Ride, May 19.

Couldn’t think of a specific spot for Bad Brains, but they did perform at the Original 9:30 club which was here at 930 F Street and it’s hard to believe this bustling white collar shopping/business strip of D.C. was once crowded with punk rockers like I was in my teenage years. Wish I could have been here!

Damn I didn’t recognize it! Only the façade and our memories remain. Places that are gone indeed.
The RAZZ fan approves of this thread nonetheless.

ParticipantI am making sure John Harpold of Papillon Cycles will be at the meeting. He has some skin in this game- literally. Several of our customers who were hurt on the Pike, and his own busted ribs.

I would definitely consider replacing the seatpost too. For one thing where that rail broke looks like stress from post clamp. Maybe it was over tightened. But a better post will also allow for better angle adjustment (non-indexed). And likely will also weigh a lot less.
Seatpost, yeah. You might want to find one with a little further setback, so that you’re not beyond the rearward limits of the saddle rails.

I rode through here for the first time recently, and I did not realize these were variable lanes. I think I saw the paint on the lanes but not the overhead signs. I was rather uncomfortable, because I was not certain where I should position myself for maximum (haha) safety. Thankfully it was a low traffic time of day.
The reality check- regardless of how the lane signals are configured, whether I’m on 2 wheels or 4, I must have a contingency plan to avoid someone who disregards those signals.
