how about a couple of those massive speedbumps that are all over arlington’s suburbs? just leave the wheel ruts out of them and drivers can either bottom out or slow down. most people going over speedbumps don’t understand that they have functioning suspensions anyway (i love seeing hummers crawling over speedbumps).

Hey Pete, do you know if a metal crown race would be compatible with this headset? This is all new territory for me.

is it a cartridge or loose ball headset? if it’s cartridge, then the crown race plays a much less important role than if it were loose ball..with cartridge it really just acts as an interface so the cartridge doesnt slide around on the fork crown.
i wouldn’t worry about it. let it be and see what happens.

I’ll likely be riding with Kathy (arlingtonrider) from Shirlington to Crystal City to Rosslyn. From there I’ll be breaking off down Wilson to Ballston and Falls Church (where my Tshirt’s at) then back to Shirlington down the W&OD to do a little work before I take a bus to NJ.

Departure time…maybe 7:00am? maybe earlier. Haven’t chatted with her ’bout it yet.

id have a hard time believing that’s right, i doubt nylon would last the installation. got any pics of all the pieces?

edit: strike all that, a quick google search says nylon is it.

I was stop by a PP in Hanes Point for not stopping at a stop sign. I disputed the incident but he gave me a ticket anyway. I just don’t understand, I was nearly hit by two cars and PP felt it was more important to give me a ticket for not stop at a stop sign. The PP is really tough on cyclist.

Did you join to complain that you broke the law and got punished for it?

Great strides have been made in fundraising for this trip, however, much of the credit due belongs to my parents for sending out letters to their friends and colleagues. I’ve got about about a month and a half to go, and have currently had a $3,440 in donations. Incredible right?
I’d like to thank the members here who’ve donatedL K. Lewis, Jacques, K. Lizotte, and E. MacGregor, your generosity is very appreciated, thank you.

And as a reminder to everyone, if you donate, which you totally should ;), you will get a handwritten thank you card and a handwritten post card or three from during the trip (you can choose from where if you’d like).
So, please help me help people, instead of buying a coffee, or getting extra chicken on a delicious burrito, donate a few bucks and feel awesome about yourself.
Righteous, thanks y’all, hope all is well.

I rode to my LBS, and my knee was much better. That’s weird, because the ride in is downhill, home is uphill, so I’d expect to feel worse on the way home. I made an appointment with the shop owner for a fitting on Thursday, but I’m less sure it’s bike fit than I was before. Maybe I tweaked the knee playing flag football? Slept on it funny? I don’t know. I figure the fitting can’t hurt.

yea, that’s a good move, i’m getting fitted before my xc trip despite my being pretty comfortable with fitting myself. as long as they know what they’re doing, things can only improve right?

here’s some top-rated, expert advice about fit

^#5 in this article is what i was referring to with the height bit. i dont know why you would feel it when your standing though, maybe thats residual soreness from your body being adjusted to the improper seated position

Seems strange that it is only one knee and not both. You may have accidentially pulled a muscle in your knee; I imagine pulling a trailer does strange things when riding a bike. I know moving the saddle forward or back can make a huge difference. Be sure you didn’t raise the saddle so high that you are now rocking your hips when pedaling.

the one knee bit isnt that surprising actually because when the saddle is too high or too low the rider naturally dips one side of their body slightly to account for the height, so only one side is actually stretched out.

line the crank arm up with the seat tube, put your heel on the pedal and raise or lower the seat until your leg is completely straight.
