One of the most enlightening moments I’ve ever had on Transportation Commission was when the transportation impact analysis came in for the 12-story office building that will eventually replace the old Wendy’s in Courthouse. Trips per day went DOWN. Like..way down. Fast food drive-throughs are extremely traffic-intensive.
I live by the Chick-Fil-A on Maryland Ave NE DC. That place is craaaazytown

ParticipantLooks like a nice loop – I hope to do some riding on NYD but something tells me I won’t be up before noon…

ParticipantThis is my first FS and I expect to cycle more than previous winters, though I did bike commute through the last two winters.
2019 was the first year I cycled for any reason besides commuting. Part of the change was the great overnight bike trip I did with Judd and gang out the C&O earlier in the year. I learned ‘distance’ cycling was fun, bike camping was fun, and my fitness level was about rock bottom (getting dropped on a ‘fun’ ride is an experience to say the least). After 2,000 miles in the saddle this year I’d say my fitness level is a solid 3/10.

I have an entire drawer labeled “cycling socks”. Challenge accepted.
I need to introduce you to my wife who thinks that because I have two long sleeve and two short sleeve cycling jerseys I don’t need any more.

ParticipantI voted for an ankle band because I somehow, after 4 years as a full time bike commuter, still stick my pants into my socks every day.
Also, as cool as an LED ankle band would be, I’ve already got enough high tech things with batteriesSmitty2k1
ParticipantThis is also in Charles Allen’s Ward and he tends to get things like this taken care of if brought to his attention.

ParticipantMaine St is combat for sure, I lived down there when phase 1 of the Wharf was still being built. Eye St is a pretty good east/west thoroughfare and doesn’t seem too out of the way. Crossing South Capitol is pretty good on I St and I think much of the construction is about to wrap up on I St in Navy Yard, though I haven’t actually been down that part in a few months (I commute between NE/SE DC these days).

ParticipantDo you know what time the actual rides start? I see registration at 8:30 but it says start times vary by route, but no start times are listed.

If you are interested in racing, better sign up now. 16 slots left.
Also, I may have an entry to sell, but I will not know for sure until November/December.
I’ll take it off your hands if you do, I’m a terrible human being and missed registration even with your reminder.

ParticipantLooking forward to my first year participating in this even though I’ve commuted all winter the past two seasons.
September 30, 2019 at 2:00 pm in reply to: Velocity Dyad (reflective rims) 700 wheelset available. #1100726Smitty2k1
ParticipantThanks, that’s what my research last night deduced too. I may end up with a 34t cog but I may also end up with 32 or 30. So although these seem like a great wheelset (depending on price) I think I’ll pass. Still sorta on the fence if I want 700c or 650b for my next bike anyways.
