Mmmmm, no names of the beer or descriptions of how they taste. Sorry, no point. Rules are rules.

Dominion Cycling Photography has photos up from the HP100: https://dominioncyclingphotography.zenfolio.com/p747196025. Amazingly I’ve found only one photo of SteveO and it was not on a unicycle.

I love this change. When I’m riding downhill, I can confidently proceed with the walk sign, without worrying a car will whip a right turn into me (it’s happened). Now cars get to go when cyclists and trail users shouldn’t go. Cars shouldn’t go when trail users get to go. Easy peasy.

Also, there’s no slip lane. There’s a right turn lane.

A big +1 to ArlCo for doing this, just don’t let it go to your head.

This doesn’t affect many people, but will affect access to the W&OD for those accessing the trail from Madison Manor in Arlington. In particular, the Aronson-Claeys Bikeway (named after the visionary neighborhood association leaders responsible for its creation) will be closed for several weeks.

Upcoming Sanitary Sewer Relining Work: N Powhatan St b/w 12th Rd N and the dead end
    Good afternoon,

A part of our sanitary sewer maintenance program, Arlington County will be installing a new 8-inch sanitary sewer line in your neighborhood.

Project Location: N Powhatan St between 12th Rd N and the dead end

The work is tentatively scheduled to begin on December 2 and is anticipated to take approximately 45 days to complete, weather permitting. Please note that there will be no work on Christmas Day, Wednesday, December 25 and New Year’s Day, Wednesday, January 1. Between Monday, December 2 to Sunday, December 13, a small section of the W+OD trail will be closed. Please see the attached map for more detail.

During this project, a County representative may ask permission to enter your house to perform a dye test to verify the exact location of your sewer lateral for proper reconnection.

You may experience some inconveniences such as: no parking on the streets; temporary road closures and noise/dust. We will do our best to minimize the inconveniences and appreciate your patience during this process.

If you have a specific question about this project, please contact our contract manager, Hisham Wahdan, by email at Hwahdan@arlingtonva.us or by phone at 703-228-7628 between the hours 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. After these hours, please contact the County’s Water Control Center at 703-228-6555 and a dispatcher will address any issue in a timely manner.

So that makes for at least 4 detours affecting either the WOD or access to the WOD within about a one mile radius. I’m sure that a well marked, safe accommodation detour will be marked. Wait, never mind, this is Arlington.

Ah, the ol’ “your study must be wrong because my anecdotal observations lead me to a different conclusion”….

That’s funny because you continue to mischaracterize the study to fit your own biases. As I posted on the e-bike thread awhile ago, although the study was done for NVRPA to inform policy for e-bikes on the W&OD, the findings of the study, including regarding speed, are not based on behavior on the W&OD. It just cites a study that found that e-bikes were observed to go faster on roads than analog bikes and slower on a MUP than analog bikes. I’d also note that the cited study also found nearly identical safety behavior between e-bikes and analog bikes. This would dispel the notion that e-bike riders can somehow be expected to be more careful than the rest of us “crazies”.

I would also like to report that the Erie Canalway Trail is in excellent condition almost in its entirety. A few root heaves in a couple of places, and some fun, single-tracking through the woods on occasion.

Not to defend people who don’t use their own lights and reflectors, but would it kill you to briefly cover your light or swivel it to the side? A light angled to illuminate 25-30 feet ahead is also angled high enough to temporarily blind most oncoming trail users.

If it means that I can’t use my hand to steer or brake, or causes me to not see the ninja running in front of me, then ,yes, it could kill me.

Wait, I demand a full accounting of how the scores were “properly calculated” to overturn Team Sandals’ convincing second place.

Thank you for sharing this. Another Mr. Cox memory is that his wife gave him a home brewing kit. I offered to help him with his first brew day and he always said he would do it later. His passing reminds us that someday there will be a last bike ride and a last brew day.

Another memory is that he was pretty insistent about being called Robert, rather than Bob. So I just called him Mr. Cox.

Thank you for posting this. In addition, there are a lot of missing guard barriers, such as at the Carlin Springs underpass, and other minor damage along the W&OD. Right now, they are replaced by strips of yellow plastic and maybe a cone, which hardly would keep someone from going off the W&OD and into Four Mile Run. While some time may be required to plan fixing the Wilson Blvd underpass and identifying the associated fees, it seems like the County is making no effort to repair the more minor damage which should require much time or money.
