I already shrieked my response at you yesterday. We could not quite make out your response….. how many fingers were involved that is.
I said “peace be with you.”

I can’t speak to the sidepath, but have ridden on the road on Jeff Todd without any issues. Two very wide lanes so plenty of space for cars to get around you. Mount Vernon Hwy becomes Jeff Todd when you cross Route 1. If you take Jeff Todd to where it ends, you can turn left on Telegraph, ride up the hill to where the shopping center with Wegman’s is, and then turn right on Beaulah if you’re trying to get to Kingstowne.
Turn right on Telegraph and use Hayfield to access Kingstowne.

ParticipantThere’s stiff competition, but “upper middle class businesses with street parking equals dystopian” on a single small block in a nice neighborhood might be the most ridiculous thing I’ve read on the forum in seven years.

Newbie here–please be gentle… Want to start bike commuting from the Palisades to downtown, near the World Bank. Google Maps produced two options:
1. CCT via Norton St entrance. 6.1 miles.
2. MacArthur Boulevard. 4.8 miles.
So, option 2 would be shorter and likely faster. But should I assume that option 1 would be safer?
Yes, and your ride past Key Bridge and through Georgetown will be much nicer on the cct while you’re still getting used to things. One mile longer is negligible.

ParticipantA couple of forum members were out again this morning clearing snow and ice on the DC side of the 14th street bridge. Great work; thank you.

Interesting thoughts. I kinda like the idea of most Strava segments. Or maybe even most Strava segments ridden once, and only once, to really prompt wandering all over creation? That’s super easy to game, though… Not sure I’m looking for Calvinball.
My idea (which apparently wasn’t totally clear) is maybe better expressed as the rider who covers the most ground? Or the most miles ridden during FS, but only the first time you ride that ride counts? Or the rider with the most evenly lit most sprawling heatmap; instead of just a few bright very well worth paths.
I want a prize for exploring, and wandering, and new things, and not just riding your same habits.
I was (and still am!) wondering if there’s a way to quantify this.
Or, I guess, given the hugely high stakes involved, I could just eyeball it?
Give a prize to the rider whose heatmap looks to me like they wandered hither-and-yon the most?Basically you’re suggesting a prize for the broadest contiguous strava heat map, I think.
EDIT: I’m pretty sure that prize existed in a previous year.

Watching people who don’t participate in Freezing Saddles complain about the rules of Freezing Saddles is one of the most DC things on this forum.
Are you referring to me? I’ve been a FS participant four times, and came to the forum to sign up this year when I saw this thread, as noted above.
Perhaps even more DC is a bike riding challenge in which a couple of people who don’t ride much change the rules to tamp down the efforts of those who ride a lot.

Sure, yes, daily sleaze rides. Emphasis shifts to riding every day as opposed to riding for any duration or distance. I assume the number was chosen due to being a median distance for the competitors, but I have no idea.
But are any of us discussing this even playing this game?
. I’m certainly not, and would be surprised if Subby were to come back to this again.
I was planning on returning to it, which is why I saw this thread.
