We’ve never met, but after 500+ posts you’ve made on this board since April, I’m really intrigued to meet you in person.

Kel is just as groovy but entirely different in person.

Sounds like it’s designed by someone who’s never actually been on L Street, or anywhere in DC for that matter. Taxis don’t drop off and pick up on the left side of a one way street? Right.

I wore running shoes all through last winter, but switched to a pair I had bought a little too large, and wore them with two layers of socks – one thin pair and one thick pair. On the few mornings that were below 20 degrees F, I added chemical toe warmers over the toes of the outer socks. That system kept me very comfortable on all of my 8 mile commutes.

This was my method last winter (starting in January) too, minus the chemical warmers. It was mostly fine. I think we might be in for a colder and wetter winter this year, though.

I thought a lot about wearing my old timberland type boots last winter. I never did, but sneakers aren’t cutting it. This is where a smart shoe producer could make a killing.

This is also where our well-meaning and well-kitted friends give us links to shoes that cost way more than my bike. I’d love to find something serviceable for under $50 (still more than my bike, though).

I’m only worried about my feet this winter. My winter hunting boots are way too heavy to commute in every day, and they’r the only warm and waterproof footwear I have.

Hello — Saw a few of you while counting trail users at the Custis and Ballston Connector this morning.

Here I am with Dismal Scientist and dcv:

I also took a picture with RESTONTODC, but it didn’t turn out because we had our backs to the sun. Doh! Between that and forgetting to photograph Guy Continental yesterday afternoon, I’m batting .500.

    I question your maths.

Yes, I saw a couple counting this morning. I was just wondering if they were forum regulars. Because I’m nosy.

I just wish someone would convince my daughter that she doesn’t need to wear her knee and elbow pads every time she rides her push bike. Also, she doesn’t need to take them off the second she decides to take a short break.

So was anyone here doing the counting on the MVT by the airport this morning?

Hey kid, more pedalling and less dancing, please. Also, the proper-bike-fit crowd’s going to be annoyed.

To everyone I passed this morning, sorry. I wasn’t even going fast, but it seemed like every time I passed there was a bike and pedestrian in too close proximity to justify it. I guess my timing was off today.

To the pedestrian at 18th and L: how am I a “jerk” because you decided to cross against the light without looking?

Have a robins’ egg blue 50 cm Surly Cross-Check with orange cable housing and orange Ortleib panniers and black & white spiral-wrapped bar tape and a black Brooks saddle (as I just saw the last two on a Raleigh over by Oyamel and thought it looked very nice) bathed, oiled, and brought to my rooms.

    Wait, what?

My wife declared that Surley’s robin’s egg blue was the exact color she wanted for our dining room walls. I suggested buying a cross check and hanging it on one of those nice shelf racks every evening. No dice.

I vote for braids all winter.
