ParticipantI get to ride all the way home to Annandale today instead of just to Old Town. Yay for me!

Aw, Tim Kelley got the one I was going to put.

Just ONE bank note?! Sartre obviously wasn’t ELITE.

ParticipantSaw KelonWheels waiting to get on the Penn cycle track this morning. She was wearing her road warrior face.

OH yeah: insofar as being branded as “elite” (as this forum uses) vs. other… I think is truly silly…
Different stokes for different folks… nah! All strokes for each folk.
ELITE was added to our lexicon via an epic rant. It’s generally used sarcastically (and always in CAPS).

ParticipantI timed my ride perfectly. Left about 25 minutes early in a very slight drizzle, got to Old Town as it started to sprinkle, and watched a steady downpour develop a few minutes later. The MVT was empty, though I did see my Bob coming up the Crystal City connector, and just a bit of minor debris to watch out for.

My main go to for avoiding the real heavy stuff is http://www.wunderground.com/wundermap/?lat=38.88659286&lon=-77.17978668&zoom=8&pin=Falls%20Church%2c%20VA. Most of the time you can shoot the gap, but you have to allow at least 30 minutes on each side of your normal departure time. Also, today is going to be tough given the fact that most of the really crappy stuff is coming from due south.
If anyone wants to tie a rope to my bike to form some sort of buddy system I’ll be heading out around 5pm ish from Metro Center to Falls Church.
Ah yes, I use that site too. Now looks great, but at least 2 hours earlier than I could justify leaving.

So for those that rode in today (props) if you can adjust your departure to avoid any squall lines later today then you should be fine. It will still be breezy and blustery all day, but nothing crazy.
Care to do a quick explanation/tutorial on how to know one is avoiding squall lines?

ParticipantRode in today and the trails were pretty empty. Nice tailwind at Gravelly Point. Got to work nice and dry, but we’ll see how the afternoon goes.

Officially, the W&OD is closed after dark. One of my friends out in that direction gave up bike commuting because the police stopped him for being on the trail just after 9:00 pm in June. It was hardly dark. When Herndon lights the W&OD, makes it easier to justify being out on the trail after dark.
So in winter it’s closed before anyone even leaves the office?

ParticipantSaw ArlingtonRider this morning just as we left the 14th Street Bridge. Howdy.

Ah, I questioned your maths while mucking up my counting — I was counting DS and dcv as a single sighting. Mea culpa.

ParticipantCoffee Club would work, though I don’t seem to ever be able to get there before 8:30. Would that work for you?

ParticipantAs it would be my first piece of ELITE gear, I’d be glad to take it off your hands.

ParticipantI think I’ll do the ride with the 6 year old; perhaps the wife and little one will join us at the end.
