Hello hello and welcome to Team 19! This is your Captain speaking, Kitty (or Grace as it shows on Strava.)

It was wonderful to meet as many of you as I did at the kick-off happy hour. For those of you who I didn’t meet directly, I was the one dressed as a penguin. For that reason I have “Ride of the Penguins” as a place-holder team name.

To that end, one of our first orders of business is to decide what we want for a team name (or if we just want to go with that).

The second is to get to know each other! Please post to this thread with a brief introduction: tell us a bit about yourself, where you live (or ride), how many year’s you’ve done Freezing Saddles, your goals for the year/winter, your favorite type of ride etc.

To get things going I’ll go first:

As noted above, I’m Grace but I go by Kitty (seriously, they are used interchangeability, will answer to either.) I’m a Michigan native, but have lived in Arlington for the past 8 winters. I miss the snow of the North, but love being able to ride more months of the year. This will be my 2nd Freezing Saddles, and my 1st as a Captain. I have a somewhat short commute, but will try to make it up by riding everyday and taking advantage of/making opportunities to ride this winter. My goal is to ride with each of you at least once over the course of the competition. My favorite rides are at least 25 miles and end with a beer or baked goods.

Finally, I have created the necessary Strava group for our team, which can be found here: https://www.strava.com/clubs/BAFS2017-Team19
I tried to invite who I could, but the system would only let me direct-invite those who were on my “Follow” list. Please join up so the Freezing Saddles system can track your miles for our team.

    With that, LET’S RIDE! :D

Kitty, don’t you know penguins don’t ride bikes? d0df3681316860b92051ff4075d1e033.jpg

Hi Everyone on the official team page. Short intro- my name is Sarah. I work in construction, but now on the office side instead of the field. I live in Riverdale, MD, work in DC, and spend a lot of time in Falls Church, VA. Hopefully the interstate commuting will be good for team mileage. I rarely wake up in time to make it to coffee clubs since I do regular shifts, night shifts, and early morning shifts all in the same week sometimes. Looking forward to a 3rd year of BAFS to help get me ready for century season in April. Nice to meet everyone!!!!

Sometimes we’ll have to F’ the other teams gently. Unless there is an objection I will officially update us on Strava to the TENacious Decimators tonight.

F’ the other teams gently? I don’t think so- we’re not metric lovers, Dewey decimal users over at team 18. Viva la Team 18!!!!

Met Branch, Northeast Anacostia, and Northwest Anacostia trails are all clear. A few ice patches on the trail between Decatur and Ch.Armentrout, but nothing major.

    According to the PM:
Closure has been rescheduled because of more coordination required with WMATA & DDOT. Closure will be just between N St NE & M St. NE. They are reviewing the needs for alternate paths and detour signs with WMATA & DDOT. M St. NE will continue to have construction traffic into 2018.

    Hope this helps!

I made it the full 100 miles in what was the most challenging weather I’ve ever ridden in. I ended up changing in and out of clothing four times and constantly was zipping and unzipping.

At one point there was a huge temperature difference on one side of HP than the other. That transitioned into random temperature differences all along the loop. It was like alternating standing in front of an AC and then standing in front of a heater.

The front finally came through and blew the rest stop away. I was literally slowed down to four mph before my bike veered into a parking space. I still had 30 miles to go at this point. 10 laps of soul crushing headwind.

Seconded. The treats were really good last year. Plus the ride fees benefit Faquier Trails Coalition. I signed up already. Just need to decide on my costume now.

    Judd,

I nominate you to ride as Wonderwoman. There, costume sorted!
