A quick question about the rules of weekly maximums. Since Freezing Saddles started on a Tuesday, are weekly individuals point contributions to the team being tallied from Tuesday to Tuesday or do I need to do a whole lot of extra riding this weekend since it was a short week?

At the moral promptings of trailrunner (thank you, trail runner), I’m editing my comment. I agree that it is a more productive to discuss the issues rather than discussing the merits of the composition of the op ed piece.

    Public Service Announcement:
On WABA’s donation page, note that you can make a donation in honor of someone, say Bill Sweetman, for example. Additionally, I believe if you put in an address say “c/o Northrop Grumman Corporate / 2980 Fairview Park Dr. / Falls Church, VA 22042”, a nice card is sent from WABA. Again, this is just an example. Feel free to donate and also take all of Judd’s money!

Good point- then maybe the points should be squared.

    Sweetman:

You wrote an inflammatory, biased article with half-truths in a major publication. That one incident, without reflection on the larger picture, does not make you knowledgeable about cycling policy or safety, and what we should or shouldn’t do. Frankly, your ideas don’t make sense.

If you want to understand this issue better, join me on my commute one morning.

Could you even imagine implementation of what he suggests? Sorry little Suzy, no bike for you until you can read and pass the written exam. Don’t know left from right yet? Then you can’t use your turn signals effectively and you are a trail hazard. You better practice your counting so you can read your VA mandated speedometer. Oh, little Raul, you let your cycling insurance lapse. Better ask mommy and daddy for more allowance next month. People like Bill Sweetman just want to suck all the fun out of recreational activities with nonsensical over-regulation. Bah humbug!

    Yes…vegan.
The new documentary on vegan athletes will be coming out in January. It’s called The Game Changers. Really mindblowing and funny — a must see.

Hill killer also has some pretty sweet team vegan kit- for those cyclists bad ass enough to be fueled by cauliflower and other yummy planty things.

    Hi everyone,
Please join us for the Freezing Saddles Welcome Happy Hour on Thursday evening 10 January 2019. If you’re participating in Freezing Saddles, this is your chance to meet your teammates. If you’re not signing up for the competition, please join us for the celebration anyway — come see your friends and make some new ones! All wintertime riders are welcome (plus family and friends).

    Date: Thursday, January 10, 2019
Time: 6 pm onwards. We will plan on a short welcome presentation at about 7 pm. We’ve reserved the space until midnight.
Location: Bier Baron Tavern, located at 1523 22nd St NW, Washington, DC (between P and Q Streets on the east side of the street)…this is near Dupont Circle and Foggy Bottom in DC.
Cover charge (suggested cash donation): $10 per person…all of this will cover food, as Bier Baron has waived its normal rental fees. They will card us at the front door, where we’ll show our IDs (it’s a tavern) and pay the $10 for food.
Food: We’ve asked the venue to stagger the food in batches rather than putting it all out at 6 pm. The buffet of finger food will include soft pretzels, quesadillas, and falafel sandwiches.
Beer: Bier Baron sells 24 beers on draft plus 600 types of beer in bottles, and they have sodas and juices as well. There’s a full menu of dinner food for those who wish a heartier meal.
Children: If you’re not able to park your little ones with a friend or a babysitter, you can bring them along….kids are welcome until 9 pm.
Bike Parking: Bring a U-lock and any other locks you’ve got, ‘cause we will be parking our bikes on the street. Do not park INSIDE the neighbor’s garden – please keep your bicycle on the outer part of the railing if you lock up to any private enclosures. Two winters ago we did an extensive search for bike parking facilities in the area, but without much luck. However, there are 15 racks between Bier Baron and Dupont Circle, which will hold about 70 bikes, plus assorted poles and other things to latch onto. There is also Capital Bikeshare, assuming you can find a space in which to dock your bike, and there are dock-less bikes as well. Bier Baron is located near the Dupont Circle Metro, if you opt to take transit instead. If you’ve got a folding bike or a bicycle that rivals the cost of a diamond ring, or if you forget to bring your lock, the Bier Baron has graciously offered for you to bring your bicycle into the bar. There is only limited space so please send me a PM (private message) in advance, if possible.
RSVPs: We are making a list of likely attendees so as to generate an approximate head count for food.
Please reply on this thread if you’d like to join in the fun (and please indicate the number if you’ll be bringing friends/family). All are welcome.

    Looking forward.

ADOPTING Vision Zero is easy – DC did it! But actually implementing policies that get us moving in the general direction is REALLY REALLY HARD. I mean, I assume it is, I can’t say for sure because I don’t think DC has actually tried. We have a lot of Twitter hashtags, though

Vision Zero in DC is a joke. Headline today- man in wheelchair in SE DC hit and killed by a motorist. How many people have to die for DC to make Vision Zero anything besides political posturing?
