ParticipantDang, yeah, saw that on Twitter earlier. It’s funny, I usually would gauge the last snow melt in the DC area by the ice between gallows and cedar on the WOD. (Which is melted)

ParticipantGreat time this morning! Maybe we should make a stickie thread for all of the Coffee Clubs going on? There’s so many now and it’s awesome!

ParticipantI can’t speak for park st to gallows but everything was great but great falls/little falls section on the WOD from gallows to Shirlington. However, heading west on the rte 7 bridge is clear but going east it is not.

ParticipantI’ll consider that a challenge!

Cannondale Quick, black with white lettering. I have a BikeArlington tag and a Washington Area Bike Forum tag on my pannier, though they’re most visible from the side (so you’ll have to catch me to see them!).

ParticipantNice! I live a couple of blocks from there. Count me in everyone. Chris – you might have to do that. It was quite icy/snowy this morning so not totally sure how much it will melt today.

ParticipantSorry guy! Hey what bike do you have? Will be on the lookout for you out there.

Too bad I didn’t read this post before I went that way. It was tough: I flintstoned the 66 overpass, but managed to pedal through the 495 overpass. The icy ruts of death were plentiful, in many places.

ParticipantI love mine. 9 speed shifting…no problem. That’s not to say I wouldn’t enjoy some paddle shifters but what I love about them is shifting to any cog directly, not having to press shift multiple times to achieve a needed position. Seems to me that if you hit your knees on them your bike is too small for you.

I enjoy the throwback concept of downtube shifters though I haven’t ridden them in a long time – I suspect I would hit my knees on them until I got used to them.

ParticipantI love Breadwinner Cycles, their designs are flawless, designed by Ira Ryan I’m sure. Take a peek at their new gravel racer they displayed at NAHBS. Stunning. 11 speed internal downtube shifters (heaven) and disk brakes.

As soon as I get to a point for bike #2 I’m most likely going Breadwinner, thinking of their Lolo model or hey maybe this one.

ParticipantOK, definitely agree to bypass the WOD section between Gallows and Maple. It’s really not worth the trouble, I had to walk mostly between Cedar and Gallows. Take Cottage or Electric. Beyond that, I can’t believe the bridge accumulation out there. Case and point – the trail is clear around the 495 bridge near Gallows but the bridge itself had to have a least 5 inches of snow on it. Crazy. The bridge accumulation is really the only issue beyond the WOD section aforementioned, besides Brandymore Castle. Each bridge still has fluffy snow/ice and snow ruts on the two sides on each bridge. I’m hoping these bridge sections have some melting today. They should right?
One thing that surprised me was the Shreve Rd WOD section had no issues this morning, it was mostly clear. I guess the sun’s angle these days has a lot to do with that. Saying that, I did see a cross country skier in the Gallows/Cedar section. He looked happy, I looked scared and confused I’m sure.

ParticipantSo the wind is going to pick up a lot around 4am. This will surely help rid of standing water, etc. Might help us out a lot.

ParticipantGuess I’ll go for it too! Thanks for the updates.

My trip back along this route beginning at about 4:30 was much better than anticipated. Still some snow in the same places, but it was pretty easy to contact pavement with my 32 slicks (that I decided not to pump up this morning). Citizens’ Bridge was almost a game-breaker, but I prevailed without flintstoning once. I don’t know how it will be in the morning, but since there were good lines in most of the snowy parts, I’m likely to go for it regardless.
Have fun, everybody!

ParticipantSo glad to hear from you Dickie. Was wondering what was going on bc I haven’t seen you. Hopefully, I’ll be back out tomorrow and if I’m lucky I’ll spot you.

First days back in the saddle in a month and I spot eminva last night, possibly dkel on the Custis and Dread this morning… nice to see friendly faces after a tough month. Oh… sorry, pretty sure I caused the snow!

ParticipantCool! Maybe see you guys out there.

ParticipantAnother Tuesday another snow event. Seems like it’s on a devilish cycle. The WeatherGang is calling for a dusting to an inch or so with rain later in the afternoon possibly. Let’s hope the asphalt/concrete out there is warm enough to keep melting the flakes tomorrow. The thing we’ll have to contend with tomorrow is just icing due to overnight temps. I think I see more of a permanent warming trend coming about starting Wednesday, maybe. Fingers crossed.
