ParticipantThe bike lanes could use some prominent markings like green paint. The biggest short coming is that they don’t connect to bicycle infrastructure on either end of SHL. I wouldn’t be surprised if Fairfax thinks this restriping is the end not the beginning. Since I’ve lived in Fairfax County for 30 years I can say with confidence that we are about where DC and Arlington were in 1984 with regard to infrastructure and, more important, active transport mentality. One of my representatives is young (30s) and rode his bike across the US. The others are old and in not-so-good physical shape. I doubt they “get” this everyday bicycling thing.

ParticipantThanks to Arlingtonrider for setting this in motion again.

ParticipantSee you there.

ParticipantHere I go again. I’ve lost track of the number of times I’ve ridden this beast. We will ride the hills. We will ride the rain. We will ride with fritters. We will ride in pain. We will ride the News, the Norths and Souths, we will ride til we get some pizza in our mouths.
Clearly doing this ride causes serious long term neurological problems.

ParticipantThey typically refer to this as a bicycle education program cuz it’s a bicycle friendly city.

ParticipantIn a couple of months a new route will open. Continue on the MV highway to US 1. Go straight onto Mulligan Road which will go all the way to Telegraph. Left on Telegraph all the way to US 1

ParticipantI have three bikes with a total of 80K miles. I’m pretty sure they all have their original front and rear deraillers. So I’m skeptical.
Is his derailer a really cheap model? Did his bike fall over on top of it? Did he use his bike as a hockey stick and play goalie.
Take it to a mechanic who you have confidence in. Paul at Bicycle Space, Bailey (the owner) at Papillion, Fred or Carlos at Spokes are a few I trust.

ParticipantI am working from home on Thursday so I needed an excuse for a bike ride. I’ll be there!

ParticipantI bought a bead jack and thought it was useless.
I use the method in this video.
During a bike ride I could not get my Marathon back on. Another rider popped it on just as this video shows. I’ve tried pushing the bead over the edge directly and succeeded in taking the skin off my thumbs. The better way is to use the heel of your hands and push on the tread of the tire so that the last part of the bead clears the rim.

ParticipantPersonally, I think a memorial service is called for.

ParticipantI did the ride with Rcannon100 and did the metric (?) version the prior year. Food at the rest stops is pretty darn good. Last year was indeed very windy. Well worth doing.

ParticipantI all seriousness, the best investment they could make would be to repair the wall encircling the park and build it two feet higher

ParticipantGiven the rise in the level of the Potomac River over the next ten years, they’d be wise to open up a water park instead.

ParticipantEspecially since it’s next door to Dairy Godmother.

ParticipantAnd this morning a car coming off of I-66 never even touched the brakes while running the Lynn St red light to turn right toward Key Bridge. I am beginning to think that the light is invisible.
