At this point we don’t have any prizes for the more standard competitions:

    Male rider with most points
    Female rider with most points

I can provide prizes for the Male and Female riders with the most points.

Uh, fingers crossed, you will be the butt of the seventh-grade jokes next year. Those are even more immature.

Finally, I offloaded three (3!!) frames to goodwill because no one else would take them.

I still have bikes for sale!! Bikes for sale!! See here!

Commercial leases usually contain restrictions on bikes in buildings now. I suspect most read the lease quickly when the lease and then never go back to it during the term (at least not when they have a bike riding employee that now wants to store their bike in the unused office space). My office is moving and the new lease is very clear there is no bike parking in the office space. Womp. We also can’t sleep or eat in the office, nor can I display my commemorative bourbon. Regardless, the bourbon is staying, but the bike will be somewhere in the garage. Damn lawyers.

Falls Church City is lovely and is very convenient to work: DC, Tysons, Reston, Ballston… If you drive to DC, Rt. 50 is not HOV-2 and almost as easy as 66. If you aren’t driving, there are two metro stops within a mile.

Schools are very good, but you are paying for that. I think Fairfax County just matched our (and Arlington’s) meal taxes, so property taxes might be higher, but not too much. Crack police department is always on the ready using our tax dollars to buy and conveniently place traffic cones!

There are quite a few bike commuters in Falls Church (City and FFX County). Monday Morning Pancakes meets in Falls Church right on the trail on the north west end of town and Tuesday Kindred coffee is on the far east end of town. Falls Church just came out with a bike plan that looks great (lights on the trails, bridge over Lee Hwy), we’ll see how that is implemented. The worst thing I can think of is the hills! My steep street is featured on the Kill Bill ride. Some may think of this as a “pro” rather than a “con” though. The City does not currently plow the W&OD trail, but there are several easy street ways around the trail to go east or west and connect up with a plowed trail.

Because the City is so compact, unless you opt out of the local private schools, you are only ever 2 miles away from a classmate or the actual school building. Coming from a school district that was very geographically spread-out, I love this. The local bike store knows my kids (and has called my husband to let him know they wandered though) and we feel very safe with them going around the city unaccompanied.

For those in Vienna – Follin Lane might be finished by the end of May.

    Good afternoon Kathleen,

We anticipate the completion of Follin Lane to be around the end of May 2016, barring unforeseen problems and weather issues, of course. After that, we will evaluate Echols Street for repairs and possible repaving.

    Sincerley,

    Subject: Echols Lane

    Hi –

I’m not sure where to report this, but here I go! I bike commute into Tysons most days and the road construction on Follin Lane has caused great disruption to my commute. I travel from the W&OD trail, take the Branch Road exit, Echols, Wolf Trap, Lord Fairfax and into Tysons. Because Follin is torn up, many, many more cars (and Metro busses) than usual take Echols. The road surface of Echols is horrible, in part because of the increased traffic on that road. I’ve seen fender-benders as a result of the stop signs and folks traveling too fast.

As a bike commuter, it is an important connection to Tysons. The terrible road surface causes me to weave and bob on Echols, likely bothering car traffic because they are unsure of my path.

Are there any updates on when Follin will be completed? It seems like it has been going on for a year! Any updates on repaving Echols?

    Thanks!

I’m calling this: Friday starting at 5:00 at Clare and Don’s in Falls Church. It’s easy to get to off the W&OD in Falls Church and they have a good beach menu. Bike parking is slightly non-existent, but I’ve never actually had a problem. Beach cruisers are not required.

Friends and family are welcome, as are other teams (but could be subject to trash talk)!

It looks like pirates have busy schedules!

Anyway, Friday looks like a better day for the most folks. Anyone else want to chime in?

Hey Salty Dogs – any interest in a happy hour or meet up this weekend? Friday or Saturday evening? I was thinking Clare and Don’s in Falls Church might be a good location for our bunch.
