Those nice even without the messy pannier trauma.

I use the Lock & Lock brand of containers when I want to transport food leak-free. So far, no leaks! They are like tupperware but have a silicon gasket and locking flaps on the sides.

After the concern over your predicament and indignation over the cause for it settles down I am left with a request. I think we, the other cyclists in the area need to see this resolved almost as much as you do. You have suffered significant harm and I certainly hope you win recompense for it but we are all at risk when drivers can act like this with impunity and police officers can selectively enforce the law at their whim. Please, after recovering your wits and well being let us know the outcome of this galling case.

The real moral of the story.

Will I be sneered at for meeting up at Eastern Market rather than riding in from College Park? Its that ride back to College Park when I already live in DC that lacks some appeal.:p

I think a lot of drivers, especially after the recession cut jobs and incomes and gas prices went higher, are inwardly regretting those $50k investments. They spent all that money (or went into debt), and they’re still sitting in traffic, just as frustrated as before, they’re not getting taller or having better sex after all, and you’re out there on your bike looking all healthy and having fun getting to work. It just doesn’t seem fair.

Very encouraging stuff particularly the Takoma and Silver Spring components as they form a very logical extension to an increase in DC CABI from the Georgia Ave corridor. The lack of even a wisp of a timeline is a bit disquieting. I understand that asking Annapolis for funds is a wild card but is this a two year plan, a ten year plan? Enquiring minds want to know. Still very happy to see the county forging ahead on this. Bike share is going to be a winner in MoCo too.

This was a very useful site though I must confess that my bike will only get that level of cleaning about once every five years (heck, I don’t even wash myself that thoroughly! :p)

That bridge was just for bikes?!?! The concept of a government that can commit those sorts of resources to bikes without a snarling, vociferous backlash from conservative ” only cars count” commentators is genuinely stunning.

Double down. I had to drive to and from work the other day when it was raining in the evening. I encountered a rider accoutered in the manner of a real commuter ( sans any reflective clothing however ) at about 7 pm near the south end of Silver Spring. Even with a set of ‘normal’ front and rear lights he was essentially lost in the multiple reflections of car lights, street lights, store lights that flickered on the wet pavement. I felt compelled to drive rear shotgun on him until he was at least over the narrow EW Hiway bridge over the metro and thru the Georgia Ave intersection to where EW Hiway had a shoulder of sorts. Just the sort of thing that gets me on the brighter and more obnoxious the lights the better bandwagon – and the sort of thing that keeps me on side streets and sidewalks when it’s raining.
