I see couple MPD cops on MTB all the time at Verizon Center. Most of the time, they chase the criminals running on foot. Sometimes, they stop the cyclists riding on the sidewalk.

Or a crossing gate likes the railroad crossing with flashing red lights and bells when there is someone in the crosswalk.

I hope you have a quick recovery and ride again soon.

I skated with my bike many times in the areas, especially when it rains and have to stop for cars. For me, it wasn’t paint surface. It’s concrete surface that I skated on. The asphalt surfaced ends and concrete surface starts about 15 feet before this intersection. Now, I slow down around 12 mph before the down hill turn. Beside, there are too many pedestrians and uphill cyclists on the wrong side.

Congratulations! It’s a great story. You have a wonderful wife that bought you the bikes.

baiskeli, it could be worse and thank you for the warning.

My friend crashed on the wet boardwalk near old town with some broken bones last year. I would treat this boardwalk with the same respect as the downhill S curve of the Custis trail when it wets.

    Dave,

Welcome to the forum and thank you for stopping at the crosswalk. It’s a norm that the police officers don’t know much about the pedestrian and bicyclists laws. You’re right on this.

Since the Park Police is under the federal jurisdiction, we have to write to some congressmen to get the result. Personally, I don’t have a positive impression about the park police. I haven’t seen any of them on a bicycle before.

I love to buy you a beer too.

    Wowsy! I can’t believe the police got there in time to nab him;

Since it was in Mclean, VA, the Fairfax County PD provides quicker response than MPD.

    Hopefully, they get the thugs.

I wish DDOT would issue more tickets for the delivery trucks that park in the bike lane. I witnessed the truck pulled in the lane to park and most crushed a female cyclist between his trunk and parked cars this morning.

I saw the ride on Fox news last night. Here is the link. Bravely, they rode on the South Capital Street SE.

    CCrew,

I’m sorry that it happens to you. I hope you get your Macbook back soon. It’s good that you’re not hurt.

This thing is always on the back of my mind when I commute during the dark winter month but I can’t believe it occurs during the summer commute.

So maybe if the Park Police spent less time in speed traps up on the northern end of the parkway, and more time down where there are loads of people crossing it, we’d see less of this.

They need to lower the speed limit before the crosswalk and enforce it.

During the every afternoon rush hour, the cyclists and joggers are waiting to cross the GW parkway. The front cars would slowing down but the rear cars would blow the horn on them.

Sadly, the parkway should be for people to slow down and enjoy it instead of using as a commute highway.

I’d love to see what some real enforcement for bikes and cars would do for safety.

Hey, don’t forget to enforce jogger, especially the one with headset. May be dogs, cats, and deers as well

The recent GW accident was involved jogger, not cyclist. As well as my recent witness accident on WOD, the jogger jumped on the road.

Are we talking about right where you come into the turn off the downhill where the washout is always across the trail? I hope they put a drain underneath if so.

I’m not sure we’re talking the same thing. The long sinkhole with yellow paint around it in the middle of the trail. To avoid it, you need to ride either on the right or left edge.

Here is the google map link for it.

She is a really role model cyclist. The jogger ran the STOP sign but she waited for the light.

My roadie short was wet and sticky yesterday due the humidity. I couldn’t wait to take it off.
