s curve is tricky. i crashed there a few years ago but i was coming down the hill in similar wet conditions. in my case there was a bump on the trial right at the turn apex, which caused my front wheel to break traction and i went down hard. i think the grade, sharp turn and uneven / bumpy trail makes it tricky. it’s downright dangerous when there’s wet leaves or snow / ice. i hope you heal fast.
Thanks, I didn’t crash at the downhill S curve. I always slow down here. I was so slow that I have to accelerate up after it. I crashed at flat turn after the curve.

and rude too. I always see many men fighting to get in the door first so they can take seats from old ladies and pregnant women.

This situation plays out daily in the Wilson Blvd chute between Whole Foods and Market Commons. Safest thing to do? Get out of the bike lane, and pass right-turning cars on the left (you know, assuming cars from the left lane aren’t about to turn into you to get around the long line of cars turning left into Whole Foods).
I think it would help to have a sign “BEGIN RIGHT TURN LANE, YIELD TO BIKES”. Most of driver assumes the bikes needs to stop and yield for cars when marking turn.

I wonder how that westbound cyclist in blue is going to handle the intersection. They can try to move in to the car lane to get around the blue car turning right, but waiting for pedestrians. This might be risky, since the van in the lane will probably cut it too close to the turning blue car to allow the cyclist to pass through. Alternatively, the cyclist can risk a right hook by passing in between the turning blue car and the crosswalk.
I love the “BEGIN RIGHT TURN LANE, YIELD TO BIKES” sign while I was riding in Florida.

ParticipantI used the Broward cycle while I was in Ft Lauderdale beach during the holidays. It was great way to get around. I love the big basket and 3 speed shifting. It’s very similar to our Capital Bike Share. Here is their site.

ParticipantI agree. I’m seeing the volume of cyclists is increasing every year as well as other trailer users such as joggers and dog walkers in the morning. Since Metro is planning to increase their fares next year, we definitely will see more bike commuters.
I wish the governments builds more trails in Western Fairfax County. There are so many roads without shoulder or bike path.

ParticipantThe music video is awesome. I love it. What kind of battery does he use to power the big speaker?

ParticipantMy bike chain broke off during one day of my commute. I hired pedicab to transport me and my bike to the bike store. During the rush hours, I can’t take it on the Metro and didn’t feel like to stuff my bike the taxi’s trunk. The pedicab driver told that it was his time carrying a bike on his pedicab. They also know a good machinist in town.
If my bike break down again, you would use pedicab instead of taxi.

ParticipantI hang my wet bike clothes in the telecom closet next to the big network equipment. It dries and very warm within 2 hours. I love to ride in the warm dry socks.

We have Erie Insurance and have been very happy with both service and prices. I don’t know about liability/collision/medical, but our bikes are on our jewelry policy, which I believe has 0 deductible. We had Metlife the last time we had a bike stolen, and they paid for the current model year of the same bike (a carbon racing bike, so no small price difference) and paid for all the upgraded components. Very happy with that service.
Wow, I just call my Erie Insurance and they said my bike is cover under my car insurance policy. It’s including hit and run. My medical deductible is 5k and I don’t want to pay 5k when I get in to accident. Erie says they will cover it no cost.
Thanks for the tip.

I will bring an extra lock or two. I owe some lock karma, anyway – Arlingtonrider saved me at the WABA meeting in Shirlington a few weeks ago after I forgot my lock key.
Mark, I take up your offer. Thank you.
BTW, as the weather get colder, don’t forget to remove your balaclava before walk in the bank. I forgot to remove mine last winter at this bank and all tellers jumped up when I walk in.

ParticipantI will show up if I have time to pickup a U lock today. I don’t want to walk home after the drinks. I have been spoiled with bike friendly businesses around here. Most places let me take the bike inside including my bank (Presidential Bank) at Rosslyn Metro.

ParticipantTim,
It’s good location but I haven’t been in the Continental bar before. Can I still see the bike parking area from bar?
Normally, I don’t commute with a bike lock. Do I need to find a lock for this one?
Thanks,
