ParticipantHow about we require them in cars first, umkay
We pretty much are. Black boxes are increasing occurring in cars. Florence the Progressive Woman is touting that thing you plug into you car and it will reduce your insurance rate – I only assume it records your driving habits. Camera’s are increasingly standard features in cars – particularly for backing up. The nature evolution – particularly in terms of negligence law – is easy to anticipate.

ParticipantSurvey is ready for your input! Go to Cyclists-Goofing-Off-Agenda survey!
You should be able to see the results here.

ParticipantI have said it before and I will say it again: I fully support the cyclist-goofing-off-agenda!
Friday Coffee Club convenes every friday and always gets a nice little crowd.
I am a little concerned about Falls Church. Generally this is a group of commuters and the location has to be remotely on the way home. Shirlington is a pretty good fit. GTown could work. I have looked at the SW Waterfront but it is largely dead. Another possibility is Crystal City – I have scoped it and the one good option I see there is Jaleos.
Love the idea.

ParticipantI like the idea but I will echo the comments of vvill; the price of the BA jersey was too high.
The other thing is… as much as I drool over jerseys, I only wear one color: dayglo yellow.
How starting someplace small: a Bike Arlington bike bumper sticker. Or a patch that can be attached to a pannier?

ParticipantNot gonna happen. Not even worth responding to.
But to say this. I have a contour roam on my handlebar at all time. It some ways its just psychological. No more he-said-she-said arguments. If someone does something that boneheaded, something is likely to get captured. The confidence that I am going to win the argument, means in some way I can relax a bit more.
We have had a few accidents over the years. Back before digital cameras, we ALWAYS had a disposable camera in the glove box. Whip it out; take some pictures. Over years and years, I cant tell you how fast insurance companies settle when they hear you have pictures. It almost always seems to kill any dickering.
I got hit by a car about 2 years ago. Took pictures of everything. Damage to the bike. Damage to the car. The car’s insurance agent was *very* easy to work with.
Even if you dont mount a camera, always carry one. And if something happens to you or to someone else, take lots of pictures. It ends arguments fast.

ParticipantYikes, sorry to here it. I go REAL slow through the troll section.
litigation risk there is for NPS
You cant sue the sovereign. Except. The exception here is the Federal Tort Claim Act. This is what wikipedia says
In the United States, the federal government has sovereign immunity and may not be sued unless it has waived its immunity or consented to suit. The United States has waived sovereign immunity to a limited extent, mainly through the Federal Tort Claims Act, which waives the immunity if a tortious act of a federal employee causes damage, and the Tucker Act, which waives the immunity over claims arising out of contracts to which the federal government is a party.
For more on the Federal Tort Claim Act, see NoLo. It sounds tricky

ParticipantReason #53 bike commuting good: No Road Kill (er, revision based on forum, less road kill)
rcannon100
ParticipantI cant do it this Saturday. However I am fully supportive of the goofing-off-cyclist-agenda.
Can I make a suggest. This saturday is the Velocity Ice Cream Bike Ride. Its best to follow the FB page in case, like last weekend, there is a change of plans (got rained out last weekend).

I cant go this weekend, but consider ice cream and bicycles to be a divine arrangement.

I also wouldn’t wear a backpack. All that weight is bound to cause problems irrespective of fit for some people.
I agree strongly. Get the weight off your back on onto the bike.

ParticipantSprinklers were on this morning. You can see the mego pumps pulling water out of the river. There is a sign at the beginning that says “Wet Road.” Um, its a little more than that. I had forgotten, and was none too pleased as my computer bag and my handlebar camera were getting sprayed. And there is that issue of getting sprayed with river water. Ick.

ParticipantGolf course. They have a little snack bar right at the entrance.
There are rest rooms on the westside. It is a round sort of tan building on the golf course side of the road. But, ick.

ParticipantAnd check out Potomac Pedalers. They have a robust calendar of rides, broken out to different cyclists speeds, distances, and terrains. A good place to find cyclists that go about your speed.

Participantjust highlights how balkanized the bike infrastructure is
If you were so predisposed, this would be an excellent publicity stunt to highlight this exact fact… and highlight the fact that you cant get across the river, north of chain bridge, on anything but a car. Could be a great way to highlight the need for better infrastructure (and those parts of the city that get it right)
