This article cites a study with a sample size of 30,000.

I rode home yesterday, crossing the WW Bridge at about 6 pm.
Thanks. If it is not raining when I leave I plan to go that way. I want to check out the new bike lanes on MLK south of Malcom X Ave.
Just 15 mins ago, the MD State Highway admin twitter feed confirms it is closed today from 9-3

ParticipantTonight’s ride is cancelled based on the forecast.

ParticipantRegardless of the other points, can anyone conform if it really is open after 3:00 PM? Was thinking of commuting the long way home this week via Oxen Hill and the Wilson Bridge.

ParticipantWould be much cooler than the mindless loop around the golf course.
Cooler on that map is the “Race course” out by Ivy City. I assume it was horses but being from 1887, maybe it was or doubled as a velodrome.

Man, I’d give that award to Prius drivers by a landslide. Maybe all those subaru drivers are too busy watching their car fall apart around them. /bitter ex-subaru owner.

Best way past that section is to go through Fort Belvoir. You need to show id at the gate.
Enter at Walker Gate, about a half mile before the Mount Vernon Hwy hits US 1. You can either exit at Tulley Gate or Kingman. If the former, continue across US 1 to Braddock to FFX CTY Parkway. Right turn to Telegraph. LT to US 1. Then pick up the map’s route.
So it is possible to bike across Fort Belvoir as a civilian with just showing ID. Sweet!

ParticipantI rode out from DC on the Suitland Parkway bike path this morning. Traffic coming in was crawling or stopped for most of the ride, my photo below was after things started moving.
Gave me lots of opportunities to confirm and challenge my stereotypes of what types of cars various types of people drive. And to see who pays the least attention (Suburau drivers based on three data points)

ParticipantI am having the same problem. Am using a double MTB crank (XT 785) and 10 speed rings, Wick Werks. Eveything is tight and mounted properly, it is just the differences ring spacing between Shimano and Wick Werks. This did not happen when I was running the Shimano chain-rings.
There is really nothing to do beyond being aware it can happen.

I guess you think like Yoda, “Do or do not, there is no try,” or “Already know that which you need.” Seriously though, you tell yourself you are going to ride, you get as much ready as possible the night before – that way you are at least halfway committed and you save prep time in the morning. Then if something interfers with the ride, so be it.
I believe culimerc sort of follows your pattern having to ride both east and west depending on the day. When I started bike commuting in 2007, my target was to ride 80 to 90% of my work days. I had just come from a job where I lived less than a mile from work and had walked in 100% of the time and walked home about 75% of the time. Since I was already out of the habit of driving, it was easier to commit to cycling, and as a one car family, my other option was Metro which between walking to EFC and the ride in, took at least as long as the bike ride.
Just remember Yoda was in charge during the fall of the Republic and failed too do anything effective to stop that.

ParticipantI find the article’s title misleading. It sounds like things are not changing. It is still a bit random and hard to predict what you will be charged and you run a great risk flying with a bike. The same it was years ago. My experience have ranged from not being charged anything for two bikes in one package to be charged €400 for a short flight with one bike packed very light.
Now a days, I will always use FedEx, UPS or a specialty service like BikeFlights.com

ParticipantAlong the North Fork Trail near Seneca Rocks in West Virgina. Simply one of the best looking trails I have ever ridden. There is a Peregrine falcon way off in the distance in this photo.

Nope, there is no speed limit on the W&OD. MVT and CCT both have a posted 15 mph speed limit, but I believe those are the only two MUPs in the area with posted speed limits.
I do not like that, and now as a Arlington County resident something I should work on talking to my elected officials about.
