ParticipantI am really talking about this:

I don’t object in theory to bikes and peds being charged for using infrastructure like that, but it had better be proportional to the wear they cause. A ton of metal doing 60mph is going to be a lot harder on the bridge than a person walking or biking.
It sounds like the charge for bikes and pedestrians would be remarkably lower than for cars.

What does this thread have to do with bike tools?
I went into general discussion and then posted. I suspect I either clicked wrong or when you do not pick a subcategory, it chooses the first one in the folder.

ParticipantI am first going to try washing using liquid hand soap it in the sink and then let is dry in the sun for days. This has worked for smelly shoes in the past, but been less than successful with helmets. I might then try the washing machine but am worried it may damage the water resistance of the bag.
I may try the vinegar mix for an older helmet that had to be retired not to age or damage but just the smell. I do worry about vinegar and a possible interaction to the glues and other bonds of the helmet.

I do think within the next few years this will become an issue. There are already commercial e-bikes that blur the line between motorcycle and bicycle. As the tech gets more popular and the prices drop, we will probably start seeing conflicts.
I can only imagine how common place e-bikes will become over the next decade. The batteries will get lighter, the ranges longer, the motors more powerful, prices will drop and I assume gas prices and car access tolls will be much higher.
As primarily a mountain biker, I dread what physical and regulatory impact they will have on trails and trail access. I would never consider one now at 43 3/4, but maybe in 10 years I’ll want one so I can still climb some of the nutty things I can just barely climb now.

My morning commute regularly lands me behind stopped school buses. Unless the bus is preparing to move on, I regularly dismount and jog carefully with my bike around the bus in the road on the driver side. This works well and feels safe.
This seems ok to me.

ParticipantThere is no discussion on this, you must 100% stop and wait. No creeping by or anything, no wiggle room like I see with traffic lights. Yes you may be safe and the kids safe by you going by at near stall speed, but the same argument could be said a driver in a car.

ParticipantI have never heard of this being enforced. This Wash Cycle page has a bit of information about e-bikes. http://www.thewashcycle.com/electric-bikes/
Personally, I am unsure how they should be treated.

ParticipantMy two hopes for this year: I won’t pick up Mono in Costa Rica . It will not be as cold as last year.

You could just ride around with an ice pack stuffed in your shorts to get in the right frame of mind.

ParticipantMany hubs can be taken apart, the bearings replaced and re-greased. It is a good skill to learn, however, you hubs may not be worth the trouble, well… they are perfect for hands on lesson. Even if they are not great afterwards you will not loose a lot.
My round about answer? Buy a NEW rear wheel. Try to get a hub like a Shimano105. Then rebuild the hub on the Bonti one to learn how it is done.

ParticipantRegardless, I still suggest going this way. Call it OS2/Warp or BeOS if need be.
