I use a Crank Brothers Speed Lever. I was looking for a pic and found a
video demonstration that shows how it works. It runs about $7-$8.I used one for years until it finally broke, now I just use Pedro’s levers.
For my snow tires, I use large flathead screwdrivers. The plastic levers don’t have enough beans.

I am reminded of the time when Dirt put a dozen roses in his backpack and rode home with the blooms in plain sight. He said he got nothing but love from the cars around him.

This sounds like a wonderfully acceptable tactic.

That’s the same make and model that yelled at us on the Conte’s ride this summer, although it was a 40s-50s woman driving.
It’s a whole family of haters!

ParticipantThose percentages are just sad, and I can verify they’re 100% accurate. I’ve been cussed out for politely informing someone that ALL BLACK is not the most visible thing in the middle of the night!

ParticipantIn the reality of afternoon traffic, you just let them stop for the gridlock and ride past, smiling and waving.

A smile and a wave takes the wind out of their sails, if not immediately then over the next several minutes. I have, of course, also used other techniques, such as when someone says “GO RIDE ON THE BIKEPATH!!!”, I say, “Go drive on the Beltway!”.
I was riding down Lewinsville when someone yelled “RIDE THE TRAIL, A&&H0L3!”. I replied, “That’s where I’m heading!”

And yes, I have too many cars for someone who never drives them.

ParticipantI blow kisses. I’ve triggered screaming torrents of anger by blowing a kiss to a driver who was angry with me.
Kill em with kindness.

ParticipantBWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
I forgot to dump the camera, but the rig performed beautifully. Could barely tell it was back there, and made it to a top speed of 24mph going through Herndon.

ParticipantBurley Solo, it’s actually used but in nearly mint condition. Original owner took great care of it. Hopefully I don’t damage it with the massive aluminum contraption I have wedged in it.

ParticipantI built my custom MTB for the sole purpose of snow commuting. When the white falls, I’ve already got it sitting in the garage on Innova Tundrawolf studs ready to go. I leave them on until spring when I swap back to mud tires and find other ways to break stuff on the bike.
The Innovas do great in slushy snow if you air them down a little. The studs buzz on dry pavement at 60 psi, it’s kinda funny.
WEAR GLOVES WHEN YOU MOUNT THEM… AND JEANS…
Many cuts have been had.

ParticipantThings I like best about bike commuting:
Having the time to enjoy the gorgeous sunrises/sunsets
∞ mpg, $0.00 / gallon
Gridlock for them = WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE for me as I pass a guhzillion cars
Rain = bad traffic, happy cyclist
Snow = BAD traffic, happy cyclist
Gorgeous weather = HAAAAAAAAAAAAAPPPPPPPPYYYYYYYY CYCLIST!!!!!
I’m almost 30 and in better shape than when I was 20PrintError
ParticipantSince my evening commute is now in total darkness, I go by the tried-and-true “cover it with my hand” method, although if the oncoming rider continues to blind me, I “accidentally” let go about 10-15 feet too early.

ParticipantToday was the new cold-tolerance limit for me, 34 degrees when I headed out (probably colder by the time I hit the trail). Brrrrrr! Did it in full summer gear, shorts, short jersey, etc.
