Participantanyone use one of these? maybe it’s loud enough to give a good heads up. Even if the person gets spooked and jumps in front of you, you’ll have enough time to brake (combined with slower speeds).

ParticipantYeah i’ll take the topic elsewhere. Seems like we’ll always be hung around here standing on soapboxes.
Or can we move along if i say I don’t care about the law? If you’re not the cop or judge save it.
Or, if you have an ebike that can climb up rosslyn, pm me please.

Participantcan we talk ebikes again, more specifically, building one? Anyone done it lately? I’ve inherited an abandon trek 6500 that got the rear wheel stolen. it’s been neglected on a bike rack for about 2 years. i’d love to take on a new little project and build this sucker into an ebike but before i spend a minute/dime on the first part, tune up, i’d like to see if i can actually afford and will this bike actually serve well as an ebike. Who has some knowledge.
(and please no flaming about the use on trails, i am a responsible rider and willing to talk to the judge about the ticket.) let’s keep it techy talk now…

Participantman i just found out this is happening in my building! I need to bust out my best spandex! I’ll be busy between 5-6pm hopefully I can come by, i’ve been very ill lately and off the bike.
TIP: 1 secret bike rack, if you go into the garage, as soon as you drive in, look to the right, bikes hanging on the wall. the first to the left is empty. It has a beater trunk bike rack hanging on it, you are welcome to use my spot (any bike left overnight I’ll call it mine
).
Also, there is a rear entrance through the garage into the restaurant. The ramp has a rail that can also serve to lock bikes on it, just make sure the bike doesn’t block wheel chair access.
BEER TIP: 34oz during happy hour is around 5 bucks. that’s your best value. for many, one of those is a party.
FOOD TIP: if you haven’t seen the menu, well, check. it’s seafood or chicken fried in form of a tender or wing. that’s it. if you have blood pressure issues, stay away from the “whole shebang” wings. those are some salty wings man..
Any other thoughts, let me know, i can walk downstairs and find out.

ParticipantI got one of these. They are well built. good bike, unfortunately for a big guy like me, it doesn’t work out to well.. I’m like yogi bear on a kids tricycle. If anyone is interested, you can swing by and check it out.. $290.00, i’ll let go, you’ll save shipping and tax (60.00 savings). bike has tops a mile of use on it, had it for a few days only. I got the Cricket in black.

Participanti just found a thread over at bikeforums. apparently the are new and the price is low to get them out on the market spreading the word, owner says price will go up in the summer.. I may consider this. I need to get off my feet, plantar fascitis killing me, this could help on the metro days.

Participanti was kinda digging the 299 price tag on the origami
and they are a VA store too although i may get someone in DC to buy it to avoid tax (yeah yeah yeah i know…)

ParticipantI def agree that trying to get a bike at 5pm is total chaos. My suggestion is to at least reduce the hours, at least one hour. 7pm is ridiculous.
I get out of work at 6-630pm and sometimes, specially during the winter, I may not want to ride 14miles back home in the dark/cold. I’ve gotten good at sneaking into the metro but been stopped as well. Trains are empty at this time. maybe reduce it to 6pm and in the morning allow after 830am, every other train is empty at that time.

ParticipantWell, since Arlington is being compared to SF a lot lately, i’ll take an idea off this video

why don’t we name it the “MotherF#### Bike Loop”
just a thought, not a campaign promise.

ParticipantAllow me revive this thread. After a a couple weeks of riding the bike including different commuting routes, I find that taking hills when on the way back home through the Custis Trail is a bit challenging and will burn me out half way through the commute. I know it will get better as my condition improves but I was wondering if it would help to change my CAADX from a 46/36 to 50/34.
My bike has a BB30 bottom bracket shell with a FSA Gossamer 36/46 setup and 12-25 10spd cassette. (hopefully i said that right, i was copying and pasting from another site
)
Is this an easy / low cost upgrade that would significantly ease up my commute? Feel free to tell me “pedal harder fatty, it will get better”.

Participanthow about biking to work with this shirt instead of vest:
http://www.lapolicegear.com/511-bike-patrol-polo.htmlAbout lights, i’m sporting 2 PB Superflash TURBOs but would love Dinotte but just can’t shell out that much, front and rear light cost as much as a new bike! Any in between solution? I’ve seen people mention wiring up Nova Bulls but i’ve yet to find a good tutorial on how to do this.

ParticipantI was looking for a thread discussing trailers but couldn’t find one. Any thoughts on those? I want to buy one to fit my 1 year old and maybe a buddy of hers now and then.
I’ve read up on everything from the cheap instep to the “cadillac” models burley/chariot that run dor 500-600. I really don’t want to spend that much and was wondering what are the specific “gotchas” of buying the cheaper ones assuming they check out with all the safety features. I see that some can function as strollers and cross country skiing etc etc. I really don’t care for any of that, i just need to attach it to the bike.
I just want it to be safe, carry kids and a bag with their stuff, and collapsible so I can cram it somewhere in my condo or downstairs bike racks. Preferably not look to fugs but thats flexible. I’ve seen that the Insteps are popular on Craigslist but they qualify as either fugs or look a bit flimsy and outdated. LBS haven’t been helpful, they don’t have them on display. i’ve only seen them in REI which carries the cadillac models.
thoughts? what are the newbie mistakes when purchasing the cheaper stuff?

Who cares? Coast and enjoy it.
I don’t, it was all in spirit of learning, now about coasting I wish the 3 riders behind me at one point would do the same instead of almost pushing me off the trail on narrow points.. a-holes.

My new cross bike outfitted for occasional commuting, with non-racing brakes and salmon pads — works great now.

Nice! i need to google up how to install my salmons this weekend.
Following on the Crank questions, today I commuted for the first time to work (EFC to Union Station), nice ride, i’m thrilled, can’t believe I wasted all this time on metro! Since i was in a hurry to get to work i stopped chickening out at 20mph and cranked up the speed. i noticed that when i hit 24-25mph downhill, i run out of gears, it seams like the gears with most power (pardon my lack of appropriate terms) don’t do anything no matter how fast i pedal and that’s as fast as i’ll go.
Is this when a 53/39 would of made a difference?
