Beautiful! So you weren’t joking when you said you bought it :) It’s gonna be awesome, I’m sure.

    I wasn’t :)

Not that it was an impulse “OMG look at that price purchase”, natch – I’m not rich – but I was itching for a speedylicious bike since February, and had almost narrowed it down to the Colossal, a Habanero custom, and the Rivendell Roadeo. Then I saw this for 45% off, and the decision was very abruptly made for me.

I took it out for a bit of a putz-about in the parking lot last night. It just…. goes.

Good to see rpiretti and culimerc at the coffee shop today! Also, thanks to rpiretti for listening to my bike’s “mystery noise” and for giving advice.

Part of me wants to make it to next week’s just because I’m intrigued. But 7am. Yeesh.

    Nope. Colossal.

Have you thought about/tried the Salsa Woodchipper handlebars? I’ve had many, many miles on them, and they’re preposterously comfortable; doubly so if you, as you say, plan on doing some touring. The flared drops also make for excellent leverage while climbing.

It’ll take some serious doing to turn a Vaya into a bad thing.

So in addition to it counting cyclists, can it also count near misses and crashes at the intersection? That would really be useful!

I was thinking the same thing. Have one on either side of the intersection, to compare pre- and post-doom numbers.

    Morbid? Yes!

This is terrifying. At 7am I’m usually still yelling at my alarm clock.

I love mine. 9 speed shifting…no problem. That’s not to say I wouldn’t enjoy some paddle shifters but what I love about them is shifting to any cog directly, not having to press shift multiple times to achieve a needed position. Seems to me that if you hit your knees on them your bike is too small for you.

I’ve alternately loved and hated my downtube shifters (now, alas, in a donation bin for Bikes for the World). They got me to htfu, because when I was climbing up a hill and taking a hand of the bars wasn’t an option (twitchy bike), instead of downshifting, I’d make a manly face and soldier on.

Only one bottle mount on that Engin. That would eliminate it from my point of view. I suspect it is also missing rack and fender mounts. I recommend the Ti disc cross/touring frame from Habanero.

Engin charges extra for bottle mounts and other braze-ons, which, yes, is Not Cool.

But it wouldn’t be a covet if I could afford it, would it? It would be in my apartment, approaching s-1.

Looks like just the rim-brake bikes/frames, though? Too bad. Now I *really* wanted a Foundry, but their 105-spec bike cost the same as my Sram Force build. Couldn’t quite justify.

Ah, I didn’t notice that pattern – was busy making googly eyes at the Colossal.

I do like foundry’s frames, mainly because they aren’t rolling adverts.
