People westbound like to take the inside line on the curve, and people eastbound like to cut the corner at the basketball courts. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve have to slow suddenly or stop at that corner going westbound b/c some dufus (or group of dufi) coming toward me is cutting off my line. I don’t get it. When is it ever okay to cut the left apex on a two-way trail? That area is also bad b/c there are always tons of leaves and sticks.

Don’t forget the giant patch of mud going westbound!

I haven’t had a gym membership in about two years but still try to mix in daily body-weight exercises to keep from “deflating” (good term). I’ve still got a good bit of residual muscle mass form my weightlifting days, but it goes away rather quickly. Situps, crunches, tricep dips, push ups, and some yoga have been able to help. Can’t say I miss the smell of the weight room….

Add a Segway or two into the mix and you get a biscuit and gravy – bike v. world disaster. Seriously, stay the crap out of the bike lanes Segways! FIST SHAKE

Mmm lemons. I say we start a cult of Cipollini and roam the MVT in tiger-striped skinsuits. And stick-on Wiggo-burns.

You had me at tiger-striped skinsuits.

So do you ride your commuter bike to the race & carry your race bike?

It is about challenging these contrived notions of what ELITE really is while simultaneously breaking out of stereotypes and experiencing a utopia of nameless faces passing by you on the trail whilst nay mentioning a word of their coming or going. ELITE is being a boisterous ninja, a lemon in need of aid, a beat that doesn’t need to nik.

I’ve got the 29er Vuelta and haven’t had any problems with them as of yet.

I had no such luck — guess everyone joined me on the late shift today. Including a higher than normal volume of cars on M Street, PA Ave and L Street. Maybe the last week of August will be good?

KelOnWheels, I think I missed something — how are you calculating cadence?

    Liz

It was damn near vacant on the W&OD around 7:30 – 66 also seemed to be flowing better than normal. +1 for Vacation!

Wednesday morning ~6:30am heading west on the Custis out to Loudon county for a long ride. Seriously?? You running club punks think the S-curve of death is the BEST place to do hill repeats in the morning?! Really? Your club organizers can’t find ANY other hills to run their 20 trainees up and down? Jesus Christ.

Surprisingly you all seemed relatively organized. Except for the dumb lady at the top who pulled a Crazy Ivan on me.

Seen this before – still does not compute. There are literally five hills just right by the S-curve of Doom that would be better in terms of safety, fitness, and common courtesy.

Different types of riders – people are pubble – and why cant we all just get along?

Thinking about it…. there seems to me that there really are big differences between cyclists.

    * ELITE riders drive in cars in order to go to races to ride bikes;
    * Commuters ride bikes in order to avoid driving in cars.

    I mean…. I am just saying…. :p

I race my bike and commute – HYBRIDS ARE AMONG US!

You: red jersey, black shorts, green backpack, black LeMond.
Me: Slightly annoyed at first that you passed without warning and then didn’t keep up the pace. But then dutifully doing my best to be helpful by calling out all our passes for you once I realized that you needed to save your breath for the brutal uphills heading toward Rosslyn on the Custis…
Thank you for putting a smirk on my face—the only thing better would have been if you had seen me closing on you on the uphills while riding no-hands.

Ah Mr. Green Backpack Lemond, I know him well. Best place to take him is on the hill up near the Arlington Ed Center – choke point!

Well, now that we have a word for it, I was heavily shoaled this morning at Lynn and Lee Highway, only to have the two really intense looking dudes crap out on me just a half mile down the trail on the MVT. I can’t wait for the ULTRA sweat eLite time on the way home.

Whoa, I just looked him up on Wikipedia. Quite a character. He definitely should have gone into figure skating instead. And I thought this year’s LiquidGas kit on the TdF was bad.

Can’t believe some folks considered Cipollini to be a sex symbol. Yuck.

I need one of his Tron skinsuits so as to appear sufficiently Elite.

Truly ELITE cyclists know that slowing down for traffic provides an excellent opportunity for acceleration training when the coast is clear.

I really enjoy slowing down, allowing the L337’s to pass me, and then safely passing them again on a straightaway. Also, if you are going to pass me at least TRY to keep up a your pace, otherwise it goes yo-yo-esque pretty quickly – i.e. me stopping for reds and then having to pass you again.

I tried panniers and just couldn’t deal with the rattling and tail-heaviness. I just got a Seagull Black Bag to replace my Timbuk2 bag, which is used to be white and blue, but now sports a giant brown patch in the middle. A well-balanced bag is easy to accomplish but you have to leave some stuff at work, hauling shoes everyday just sucks.
