ParticipantLooks like it would be terrible for front impacts.

ParticipantWhat hozn said. I’ve ridden the first 10 miles or so on 25c. Doable but you need to pay attention — none of that slacking off like the wimps with suspension forks get away with. I’ve bikepacked the full trail (bag, pad, tent, stove… the works) on 28c, which was undeniably nicer.

Everyone here: Tell the police, it’s the only way things can improve. Statistics
From what I can tell:
1) Alexandria PD enforcement follows *complaint* stats , not actual physical impact (crashes, injuries, etc)
2) Alexandria transportation planning tends to focus on physical impact (crash heat maps etc)I’d be very tempted to complain to Mayor, Council, and City Manager about police refusal to take a report.

ParticipantThe FirstBIKE is great, highly recommended.

ParticipantHow are the shoulders? Lately some of Alexandria’s MUP repaving has created some seriously steep (>65deg), tall (>3″) shoulders that are likely to cause wipeouts and injuries for anyone who wanders off the trail, as kids tend to do.
But Potomac Yard is the worst, especially the sections that abutt the free on-street parking, where car doors are frequent hazards for southbound traffic — Potomac Yard has included hazards since opening day.

ParticipantISTM that any runner could video record themselves telling him not to follow him. If he does it again, that’s a class 1 misdemeanor in VA — see http://law.lis.virginia.gov/vacode/title18.2/chapter4/section18.2-60.3/
The second offense (within 5 years) is a felony.
In this case, I think the police warning could be construed as the creep “being given actual notice” (the law does not require the stalkee to give the notice) so the next incident, *if it involves any of the same women*, could result in arrest — and, if convicted, possible jail time.

And it freezes in the winter! Anyone got any contacts over at the horse stables?
Well, 1) at least ice doesn’t splash and 2) it must be pretty diluted then. But it sounds like a case for DES/VDEQ/EPA.

If the wall is on wheels, it’s speed would diminish upon impact, which is why closing speed doesn’t matter.
While we’re being super pedantic, may I complain that you used the contraction “it’s” when you should have used the possessive pronoun “its”?

ParticipantI’m going to warn my children that failure to pay close attention in physics class may lead to trouble on Web forums…

I could be wrong, but I believe Surly has been ED coating all of their frames for quite some time now.
Looks like only since 2014/2015: http://forums.mtbr.com/fat-bikes/surly-frames-not-frame-saved-892462.html
If not ED coated, that just helps your test IMO.

Also, this’ll be a test of Surly’s ED coating in the tubes; we’ll see how much fun I have trying to get the blown up headset out. PB Blaster to the rescue?
Isn’t that the old Robin’s Egg Blue? I didn’t think Surly coated the tubes before Straggler and maybe the Hospital Foam Green Cross-Check.
Also, if PB Blaster fails, try CRC Freeze Off.

ParticipantStem? Faceplates? Axle? Nice work!
Did you treat inside the frame tubes? If not, I’m looking forward to some photos…
Also: I wish I could get that much mileage out of my pads!

ParticipantSilly question: how do you mount a camera so it’s not lost when a car slams into you at 30+ MPH?

ParticipantStair access moved? Have you seen how cheap our bike/ped projects are? We don’t even keep signposts out of our new MUPs.

ParticipantBut could trial lawyers use the data to show negligence and build cases against jurisdictions? Or is sovereign immunity so strong that jurisdictions have no fear of big jury awards altering the cost-benefit calculations?
