You don’t need that many special tools, and if you don’t want to buy a tool for something like pressing in a headset, you can make one (in that case), or get it done at an LBS,
Or do it at a co-op with its tool.

ParticipantOoh, that’s it. It’s my perfect form! All those hours sweating on rollers still playing off, decades later!

Maybe others are able to get more than 4 chains on a cassette without skipping?
Absolutely! The key is simple: use a lower horsepower engine!
Less Torque, Less Trouble.

it is hard to argue with *not* stopping at a stop sign, esp at that intersection.
I disagree. The alignment of streets is atypical but visibility there is usually very good. Furthermore the odd layout often makes right of way negotiation a little awkward. It’s a perfect location for Idaho treatment.

ParticipantFYI my phone has no clue how to deal with that. Could you post a YouTube link or something?

Participant+1 on lordofthemark’s note. APD seems impressed by volume of requests.

ParticipantReal-world riding: second place on a 360mi self supported race on unpaved roads, with a 2×5 freewheel setup and, yes, that crankset:

Keep that in mind when you read his “all roads” description.

2. Don’t back pedal. Poor form and 100% not reason to do so other than being human.
There you have it. vicegrip not only is a machine but thinks the rest of us should be, too!

ParticipantHydraulic disc brakes (vs cable actuated)

ParticipantAh, Heine lays out some mechanical arguments here, though I expect most square taper BBs would wipe out any weight savings, so you’re down to the ability to take an unusually wide range of chainings, if your front derailleur can handle it. But I guess you’ve already seen that (Compass is Heine’s company). https://www.compasscycle.com/shop/components/cranks/rene-herse-double-crank/

ParticipantIf you want praise for Herse, go read Jan Heine and Bicycle Quarterly, maybe Velo Orange. I find some of the French praise at least conceivable, if not convincing, like the low trail frame geometry, but I don’t recall any mechanical arguments for the cranks, only aesthetic ones.

ParticipantRegarding https, last time I checked, the hosting service that runs this site didn’t offer it. But it looks like Cloudflare might be a $0 option: https://blog.cloudflare.com/cloudflare-tips-using-cloudflare-for-your-for/

ParticipantMaybe it’s time for a new provider, perhaps one that supports https? (Am I the only nerd wondering about tapatalk and the Jan 1 iOS https App Transport Security deadline, https://techcrunch.com/2016/06/14/apple-will-require-https-connections-for-ios-apps-by-the-end-of-2016/ ?)

ParticipantChanges were made but they didn’t solve the problem. The initial speed cushions were too harsh and the bike lanes were flat, so drivers learned to drive in the bike lanes. Now the cushions are OK and there are some in the bike lanes, intended to discourage motoring in the bike lanes. But they don’t work.
Please consider requesting traffic enforcement via Call.Click.Connect. since APD apparently uses volume of complaints, rather than actual risk, to guide its enforcement.
