Yup–that was us. I saw you pulling into Potomac Village right as we were pulling out!
Ah, So that was you all passing me as I worked on warming my feet up in the parking lot at the base of Walhonding Rd.

ParticipantHad a glimpse of dbb, but I guess I haven’t met enough of everyone yet to identify people in a crowd…

ParticipantPete, though not the only one. Commute on a Grey Trek 7300 up to Tyson’s, but sure to become Reston or Herndon as our company moves further out the toll road. Spending more and more on my Team Cannondale coloured Synapse, on which I sometimes break Rule #17.

ParticipantSeeing as I’m in the bottom third in BAFS, I’d probably fit in well on the C team.

Rode most of the day with Will.
Saw JRenaut and JimF on the way back to the barn.
Totally got passed by Dirt and Will out at Sugarloaf. Didn’t realize who they were until I saw the pink bike ride away.

ParticipantMade sure to get in a Haines Point lap for March yesterday. Had a great leadout by team Nissan… I mean, the Xterra was pulling for me pretty well, then he gave way to the Murano…

If you want to ride with your friends and family, stay tuned for an e-mail containing important instructions. Linking your friends and family ensures that you are assigned to the same start time on Tour day and makes packet pickup faster and easier!
Group email went out today. If anyone’s interested in riding in a group, PM me and we can get a group setup. However:
YOU HAVE UNTIL FRIDAY, MARCH 1 at 1PM EST TO SIGN UP AS A GROUP. (Emphasis as in their email).February 19, 2013 at 8:40 pm in reply to: I’ve decided I need accessories more than a new bike #962904PeteD

Cost of that Starbucks latte you’re drinking in your photo: $44.50.
Not my fault they only serve Starbucks out at the Cape May-Lewes Ferry. Super-Storm Sandy was a harsh mistress of a headwind.
My point to him is that this can be an expensive hobby (my wife’s quote was “I never thought you’d find a more expensive hobby than your computers, but you did.”) even beyond the cost of the bike.

ParticipantDon’t Poo-poo the bike upgrade cost, I learned is that the accessories end up costing more than the bike ever did.
Cost of a Be-seen light: $15-20.
Cost of a “Need to see the road because I ride when it’s dark and it’s a new moon and there’s no street lights”: $100-400.Cost of a TShirt: $15
Cost of a Tech Tshirt: $17 at REI
Cost of a Bike Jersey: $50-120. (Need those pockets – Bike Arlington Jersey at Revolution was $80 when I went thru last month.)Cost of Exercise Shorts: $15
Cost of Biking Shorts: $50-90
Cost of Biking Bibs: $80-200Cost of a Cadence Bike Computer: $40-70
Cost of a GPS-enabled Cadence/Speed Computer: $200-700Then you have to add in the cost of a seat bag, so you can store your spare tube and Bike Arlington repair kit.

ParticipantNow commuting 5 miles from Falls Church to Tyson’s. I get Virgina Lane twice a day, and Gallows Road too. It will become harder as the spring comes along as.. oh, oops, I forgot to turn off after Virgina Lane, and had to turn around when I hit Gravely Point.

I hear Austin is pretty fun. I have a buddy down in Bastrop. You can go down there and say…. weeks…. at least until it warms up around here. Too muddy to bike down there tho. Nope. Just gotta ride around in trucks w gun racks. No bikes.
Bah. Roads are nice and wide, it’s only muddy at the low creek crossings, though you do have to be vigilant incase you come around a cattle grade. I can’t wait to go back and ride RR620 from Cedar Park to 71, then to 12 down to Wimberly. Then do Loop360, and then 2222 from 360 down to Mopac.

ParticipantHe’s been there several times when coming through pre-Shirlington Lunch Ride, I bet that’s one of his spots to sleep, because he’s usually gone when coming back thru around noon.

Going clockwise is easier, but you will notice that the 4MR-W&OD portion is actually uphill even if it seems rather flat.
Agreed, anti-clockwise is the pain route. Starting in Rosslyn, you’d encounter the National airport hills early, and then the slight grade up W&OD to the Custis turn isn’t so bad, and you finish with a nice downhill back into Rosslyn. Plus you get some nice placed spots to rest if you need.
I made a few loops clockwise until I worked up the guts to go anticlockwise and take those rollers.

ParticipantIf you’ve signed up for ridewithgps.com, Dirt & other Bike Arlington folks have some longer rides that I’ve been looking at riding in the near future, though mine have been focusing on the climbing aspect (Mt. Weather, Skymass, Sugarloaf).
