ParticipantIt wasn’t that bad, did my 10 miles to work. Going home should be fun though.

ParticipantI’ve never had a problem with the strobes until last night. There was someone with a ridiculously bright one that destroyed any extra night vision that I had. I usually look away, but I was coming around a corner on Four Mile Run and it blasted me. I had to creep along until the flashes went out of my eyes.
I don’t mind the strobes on the trail, just not the insanely bright ones.

There very easily could have been a parent + child walking down the trail and mowers who don’t look are extremely dangerous to everyone (and powers that be are more sympathetic to the parent + kid argument).
That’s the argument that I used. I figured it has more pull than a fit 28 year old.

ParticipantI have usually found that they keep and eye out for people on the trail and usually pull to the side and shut of the blades, but maybe it is a new guy.

I almost called a pass walking down the street yesterday.
LOL I actually did call a pass walking on the street. The guy gave me a bizarre look.

ParticipantJust did a 35 miler on the MVT. Most of the ride wasn’t too bad, but I started to feel it on the last 2 miles home, luckily for me two big downhills that gave a nice breeze.

ParticipantIt was such a perfect morning for a ride, I think I’ve passed you a few times in the past few weeks on the MVT. I have the blue Timbuk2 messenger bag.

I follow the USCG COLREGS when calling passes:
“(a) When power-driven vessels are in sight of one another and meeting or crossing at a distance within half a mile of each other, each vessel underway, when maneuvering as authorized or required by these Rules:
(i) shall indicate that maneuver by the following signals on her whistle:
one short blast to mean “I intend to leave you on my port side”;
two short blasts to mean “I intend to leave you on my starboard side”;
three short blasts to mean “I am operating astern propulsion”.
(ii) upon hearing the one or two blast signal of the other shall, if in agreement, sound the same whistle signal and take the steps necessary to effect a safe passing. If, however, from any cause, the vessel doubts the safety of the proposed maneuver, she shall sound the danger signal specified in paragraph (d) of this Rule and each vessel shall take appropriate precautionary action until a safe passing agreement is made.”Haven’t used 3 short blasts yet, as I don’t own a fixie. And for those of you playing at home the danger signal is 5 short blasts not “hey watch-it A–hole!”
I see you are using the Inland rules and Regs. I stick with those unless I’m riding down embassy row.

ParticipantOnly on a trail and then only in my right ear. I usually just have it on for the background music while riding to work. It’s pretty dead on my way in since I go early so I haven’t yet run into a problem. However, the second I hit the 14 St Bridge they are out. Also don’t wear them when it is busy and a lot of people are on the MVT.
