Another vote for the “dont’ scrimp on lights” advice and another vote for Exposure, especially the Diablo. I’ve been using an Exposure Toro as my bar light (3 or 4 years now) and an Exposure Diablo as my helmet light (past two winters, and a blinker in the summer). The Diablo is expensive, but unbeatable, and not as expensive as an accident.

On the rear, I’m running the Planet Bike Superflash Turbo, and a Portland on the rear of the helmet. Much much cheaper and visible from a half mile behind.

    Don’t scrimp on lights.

I’m also signed up and looking forward to it with some trepidation. Also have not decided whether to ride my commuting bike (Trek 7.5FX) or road bike (Madone). Would very much like to joint with a group of folks of average commuting speed (12-15 mph overall), not the race types.

CaBi rider almost killed today at 12th & U, no helmet, apparently ran red light. Ouch, very humbling.

Welcome back! I was off from Sept 17 to Nov 24 with the old broken collarbone trick, but it comes back quickly, maybe one day to recover for each day off, so you’ll be good as new by the first of May.

I don’t understand why those bike slow red bikes don’t come with helmets. The way I figure it, those people are the least experienced cyclists, othewise they’d have their own bikes, and they’re slow too. When I see ’em coming I get way over.

I’ve never seen that before. Fortunately.

Nice job. The only thing I’d add is to tie in the Maine Avenue access idea with the baseball park. I bike to games from Arlington over 14th Street Bridge, then head Maine Avenue to M Street, SW. It’s pretty funky through there, and maybe worse coming back because the access to Maine Avenue is one-way East-bound so you ride against the one-way traffic after the game heading back to the Bridge.
