ParticipantGlad it wasn’t worse, baiskeli.
I was thinking about that section of boardwalk this morning as I rode across it. The pilings appear to be steel and I’m wondering if they (and the footings) could support a paved surface rather than the pressure treated wooden boards currently in place. There may be environmental concerns about having an impermeable surface instead of the wooden boards, but I wonder if any benefit gained from the more porous nature of the wooden boards is cancelled by the effects of the chemicals in the pressure treated wood leaching out through constant exposure.
Seen simply as a safety issue, the wood surface is lousy.OneEighth
ParticipantFollowing up on the earlier posts regarding whom to contact…
For a list of members of the appropriations subcommittee that oversees the NPS go here: http://appropriations.house.gov/About/Members/InteriorEnvironment.htm
Congressman Jim Moran (8th District of VA) is the ranking member of the subcommittee.
The House has not finished debating the Interior-Environment appropriations bill for FY2012 (HR2584), which makes inquiries from appropriators that much more exciting.
Another route is through Congressman Earl Blumenauer’s office. He is a big cycling advocate.OneEighth
ParticipantAnd here I thought those sudden detours were just there to get us all ready for cx season.

ParticipantI use the Custis quite a bit, too. It all depends on how much time I’ve got for riding. Today, I can afford to take the long way home.
See you out there some time.OneEighth
ParticipantBummer. Another time then.

Not sure about recognition signals, but I’ll be leaving DC at 5PM on a red fixie with white tires and bar tape and a big black backpack heading South on the MVT (at approx. 5:15PM)and then West on 4 Mile Run and the W&OD.
I wouldn’t mind some fast company.OneEighth

So what you’re saying is that winning the final sprint in the Virginia State Inspections and Emissions Classic should NOT be something upon which I base my self esteem?
Nah, man—once you got that, can’t nobody take it away!

ParticipantVery glad you weren’t shot.
Could you please give us as detailed a physical description as possible of the two assailants?
Thanks.OneEighth
ParticipantThat which doesn’t kill you…
Besides, this is the perfect opportunity to weigh yourself after the evening ride and use that dehydrated weight as a completely unreasonable benchmark to flog yourself with around the holidays.OneEighth
ParticipantShoaling…gotta love it.
I’d be fine with it if even half of them had the legs and lungs to justify it.OneEighth
ParticipantI would love to know what happened in this particular case.
Not jumping to conclusions here—just saying that I frequently get passed by other riders who are flying by on that stretch of downhill.July 16, 2011 at 12:27 am in reply to: I was NOT run over at the Lynn Street intersection wtih the Custis Trail this morning #928142OneEighth
ParticipantI don’t think you were trying hard enough, Dirt.

ParticipantPersonally, I would ditch the repaired tube for a new one. But then, I also stopped fiddling with repairing tubes except as a last resort.
