Nothing accessorizes shants quite like a hardened chain belt secured with a disk lock.
Actually much comfier than lugging the weight in a pack.

Winter conditioning at the TC Williams Boathouse through Alexandria Community Rowing. Rowing indoors on a Concept II erg is a great training both mentally and physically.
The boathouse also has free weights.
Registration now open through Ronin Racing: http://www.roninregistration.com/rowing/newsearch.asp?p=default&pt=rowing&TypeID=5

Showing a broader economic benefit—promoting tourism with its attendant restaurant and retail impact, for example—is an appropriate way to frame any discussion about how best to use public funds. Trick is to have the sectors who are benefitting do some of the lifting, too.
Othewise, this quickly becomes a shouting match between drivers and everyone else and they’ve got the numbers.

Those fixtures aren’t very old. Any word on what caused them to fail?

It will become more of a State/local issue if this goes into effect.
I’ll let y’all handicap how that’ll play out politically.

You may want to reconsider changing the rear tire in nice clothes simply because of the need to handle your chain, etc. Rubbing alcohol is pretty good for removing grease. You’ve probably got alcohol wipes in your office first aid kit—in a pinch.

Well, you won’t catch me if you go South to National/4-Mile Run/W&OD, cuz I’m going North MVT to Custis. Of course, I could skip the shopping portion of the trip and go South instead, ride a little harder, and still pick up my kid on time…
Lemme know which route you want. I’m game. Also on the Surly, so somewhat slower today.

Hmmm. Might see you on MVT again then. I intend to punch out at 1700 and beat feet north (with a possible pit stop at the Bicycle Pro Shop).

    Happy Monday.

    Amen.
Perfect way to the end the commuting week.
    See you out there!
P.S. – Big Bertha is truly impressive as is your uphill speed on that thing.

Consularrider makes a good point about light placement on backpacks, particularly for riders with a big seat to handlebar drop. I hang two lights off the straps that secure the backpack flap at the lower edge of the bag. When I’m riding, they should be facing straight back and be clearly visible.

Sidi also makes some nice boots. They run big.

You are going to be stalked mercilessly by the Cat6ers on the ride home, my friend.

Excellent advice. I would add that your clothes will often abrade you as well when you use your backside as a brake, so remember to turn your gear inside out and give it a good cleaning.

This has been covered before, but having shaven legs helps with clean-up and care for roadrash on your lower half.

Random thought—if you have younger kids, letting them help with wound care is a good way to instill a strong sense of trust, lots of self-confidence, some empathy, and some toughness.

And, if your are unlucky enough to break your collarbone, opt for surgery.

    Shiny side up!

Not to be a downer, but post 9-11, you probably won’t get too much support for lockers in crowded places.
