Do you use the mtn bike version with bullhorns?

How about a searchable database that captures license plates, vehicle/driver descriptions, date, time, location, concise nature of incident, whether a police report was filed, etc (to the extent that info is available)? I would definitely have concerns about privacy and the quality of the information put in, for starters, but something like that could become a very useful tool.
Lots of details would need to be worked out, but what do y’all think?

All that said, why is that we can be issued a ticket by one of those red light gizmos even though there is no proof as to who was driving? Why can’t the owner of the car that hit you be likewise held responsible for at least material damages? Only the lawyers know how to divine the finer points of law in cases like this.

If the answer isn’t “money”, then you asked the wrong question.

Not me. I want my bikes to be laid next to my body in my single scull and have the whole mess lit and set adrift on the Potomac.
And I want osprey wings attached to my helmet.
And I want there to be lots of loud Wagner.

And, I hope the owner of that broken bike didn’t break anything him/herself. Truly.

I usually give the braking surface of the pads a wipe down with rubbing alcohol, too, just in case oily road residue has built up.

I went through there around 9 this morning and didn’t notice. Sure hope I wasn’t so totally on auto-pilot that I missed something obvious.

Y’all make the commute look like fun. Only pity is that you couldn’t get the bumper-to-bumper I-66 mess in the background for contrast.

On a related subject, does anyone know of insurance companies who will cover cycling? Statefarm wasn’t interested the last time I checked. Honestly haven’t spent the time digging further so I thought I’d just see if anyone else has had any luck.

Those on a black frame would be sweet. Not that you’ve ask, but put me down as in favor of leaving them shiny.

It would be silly to paint shiny, stainless steel fenders, right?

Depends…might not be enough surface area to do a nice (predominantly pink) Piet Mondrian tribute piece though.

You know, WABA could leverage some of the more experienced forum members to put on a series of commuter cycling classes. Once the class is available, you might want to use opportunities like when you hand out lights on the trail to advertise—though I think you’d find a more target-rich environment in the Spring.

Thanks for the very nice offer.
I was hoping to get her started on STI’s and was planning on avoiding both the Fuji and the GMC because neither one has STI’s.
Both Scott and Kona have nice offerings, but I’m not inclined to spend that on a kid’s bike until that kid starts truly kickin’ it like a little Liz Hatch…and then I’ll sell some of my stuff to pay for hers!
You know, up until about four years ago, I had a 1984 Peugeot PGN10 with shifters on the downtube (though I did upgrade them from friction in about 1987) which I pressed into service when I first started commuting by bicycle instead of motorcycle.
