I had a cab driver get irate with me for having to nerve to ride in a bike lane (coming back from the Freshbikes ride on Tuesday) because he wanted to turn and stop in it to drop off a passenger. We both started from the same green light cycle. I had a short discussion with him, and suggested it was fine and “no big deal” for him to wait a few seconds for me to pass before he pulled over to stop, just as if I was a car in a normal traffic lane. He was adamant that he could do nothing of the sort and continued to be irate and insisted that it was a ridiculous situation “it IS a big deal!”. He seemed to be ranting at a) the existence of a bike lane and b) the fact it was being used. I rode off feeling genuinely sorry for him. Still, better than the time in DC when a cab driver told me he would’ve shot me if he’d been carrying a gun.

May I suggest shaving your head and sporting Lemmy Kilmister chops? Image is everything in most situations.

If it doesn’t take you down, it generally ends up behind you, yes?
    Yes.
    Serenity now and whatnot.

It was good to see you yesterday evening! I would have ridden South with you, but I need to jet home to put new tires on the latest project. Only two more little bits missing…maybe four, or five. Depends how silly I get.

Do they have fluffy bunnies in Valhalla?

Yes, but they’ve got great sharp pointy teeth.

According to Wiki, and I quote: “Various creatures live around Valhalla, such as the stag and the goat, both described as standing atop Valhalla and consuming the foliage of the tree”.. So, out of you and Dirt, who is the Goat?

    Year of the Goat here.
    Baaaaa.

Can’t get to Valhalla unless one rides on dangerous days.
    Just sayin’.

I was in a line of four riders going south on the MVT this afternoon. I thought we were going fast, when OneEighth blew past us all just before the airport crossing.

Did you hear me call my pass? Wasn’t sure I was loud enough.
Y’all three were drafting off a friend of mine.
Sorry not to have said hi, but I don’t actually know how to recognize you.

Oh lord, they’re cloning him! There will be simultaneous Dirt sightings all over the state, maybe even the entire mid-Atlantic. The trails from North Carolina to New Jersey will be filled with the sounds of singing cyclists on silent bikes. There will be more pink than a Christo installation.

    Dirt is everywhere
    Dirt is everything
    Dirt is everybody
    Dirt is still the king

    Clearly, this is a purge.

The thought of me operating a motor vehicle definitely causes even the most hearty, brave soul to shake in their boots.

Super scary thought? I was once a licensed school bus driver.

    What were we talking about?

    There I was, there I was, there I was…in the Congo…

    No gloating, thank you.

Don’t worry—a very nice guy with a couple of years (?) and definitely a couple of gears on me (not to mention the lovely disk rear wheel and the aerobars) took my lunch money this morning at Hains.
    It was fun.

My Surly Steamroller never gives me any gear-related problems.

All I could trade would be an Aerostitch motorcycle messenger bag.
If not a trade, are you interested in selling your bag?

Dirt sighting (and chat) at the W&OD/Custis intersection followed by an Eminva sighting just before the Westover playground/I-66 underpass…unfortunately, the second sighting didn’t register until it was too late unless I turned and gave chase, or I would have hollered.
What an awesome number of bike commuters were out today. Had a lovely Cat6 in the morning and again in the evening with some very polite riders. Rarely (if ever) had that much fun even when commuting by motorcycle.
    I love my commute!

I really don’t like that the walk light doesn’t come on before the green anymore at the Lynn Street crossing. Needlessly increases the risk of collisions between those in the crosswalks and traffic turning right from I-66 onto the bridge.
